so the title pretty much says it all.

on saturday i was heading north on "empire grade road" (from Santa Cruz) and was going to take "236" over to "highway 9" then head back south to santa cruz....

as i made the right hand turn from "empire grade road" there was sand & gravel across both lanes of traffic.... :(

since this is pretty much a downhill full of 180 hairpins i slowed down to bout 20 - 25..... yet as soon as i saw the sand, i hit the sand, as soon as i hit the sand i hit the ground.... :mad

not going very fast so mostly scrapes and scratches.

what pisses me off is, that morning i was going to go on a group ride, woke up late so i decided to go for a short ride, and not get crazy or go too fast. so i decided to go down a less traveled road and go NICE and SLOW.....

another thing that pisses me off is that i was going to take off the stock turn signals (you could land a plane with those things) and i was going to replace them with flush mounts or something, but decided i was just going for a short ride.... i'll do it when i get back.

because of that the turn signal on the side i tip over ripped out and CRACKED my fairing. :mad

so does anyone know of a body shop where i can get this Bondo or something.

or do you think i should just buy a whole new fairing? :mad

its a small hairline crack on the fairing and the turn signal ripped the fairing a little. i will post pics up later as i havent taken any yet.

any suggestions as to how or where to repair would be appreciated. thx

Try some proper plastic glue (all hardware stores have it), maybe buy a small piece of plastic to back it with, makes it stronger.

Sorry to hear of your spill, that sand is crazy slippery.

If your fairing is cracked I would drill the end of the crack to keep it from progressing.

That sucks Edwin - I've had some close calls with sand myself and I know Empire Grade well -- real sorry to hear it dude :(

I personally wouldn't by a whole new fairing - I bet mine is way more cracked than yours and it isn't THAT big of a deal to me, and it really isn't to most people. Bike's go down bro it just happens.

I don't know that drilling is really necessary - plastic cracks don't expand the way metal does from what I know, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry to hear about the accident...

On the plastic, just add a backing plate and plastic glue it in...i believe the Ace hardware on mission by the safeway has it...if you'd like, send me a PM and we can meet somewhere and take a look at it. I'm presently without a bike, but that should be fixed soon...hopefully within the next week :teeth

RE: Diablohrt: i dont think the plastics are so bad i need to drill it.

RE: Soar and Evasion: yeah totally, i am trying to avoid buying a whole new fairing as it is only a small crack and a small tear.
i am sure this is a quick fix.

RE: Z3n: thanks for the offer, i just PM you...

just slap some bondo and and sand the area where it needs a quick re-paint and order some touch paint from heretouch paint motorcycle (http://www.colorrite.com/)

Well this is what I am doing to my poor 06 bike, trying to avoid buying a new fairing since there is no crack just scracthes. Insurance gave me money and im just gonna save it.
