Putting this up to my fellow BARFers before we check elsewhere.
My company is looking to hire a Junior level PC Technician. We are a PC parts distributor who also builds and sells whitebox notebooks, desktops and server systems.
Our tech department currently has eight technicians in our Corporate branch in Fremont, CA and we are looking for at least one new tech, possibly two.
This is not MIS or IT, it is Technical Support. We field calls from our resellers and try to assist them in configuration, assembly, and troubleshooting issues dealing with PC hardware and Microsoft
Operating Systems. We do not support end-users, for the most part you will not be talking to Grandma in her mobile home unless she has a business license and an account with us. We also perform repairs on desktop, notebook, and server systems.
Requirements:
Hardware: Notebook and Desktop PC Repair, Assembly, and Configuration experience.
Software: Microsoft O/S from Windows 95 through Windows Vista. (Some Linux experience would be a positive bump for you in the applicant category)
Abilities: Work in a TEAM environment, adapt quickly to new products, adapt quickly to new job tasks, show up on-time (or early) everyday and save the drama for your weekends.
Job Duties: Wide ranging duties including system QC, system repair, documentation, some shipping or receiving, website updates, answering Tech Support e-mails or phone calls. You need to be willing to be a Jack (or Jill) of all trades, we do not accept the phrase "that's not my job" in our department. You will never be given a task that you can not perform, if it is something new to you, we will train you.
Things that will work to your advantage:
Previous experience, Linux knowledge, Stability, Dedication (we don't want you if you're only doing this until your band "makes it"), Website experience.
Job Positives:
Good company, good benefits, good people, lots of toys to play with if you're into computers, discount on hardware, room for advancement, helpful co-workers, casual Friday is everyday, good
location (5 minutes from A's new stadium).
Job Negatives:
Junior position salary, busy schedule, need to be willing to work with changing job duties.
This can be a demanding job, but if you're the right person, it's a great opportunity. I have been with this company almost 10 years, our "newest" member has been here over 5 years. No one has left our department since I started here.
If, after reading all of this, you're still interested, please PM me. I will answer any questions that you have and tell you where to send your resume.
Thanks,
Sean
