View Full Version : WTF is with LAPD and their pursuit policy????

I'm not sure why but this seems to be a common thing in and around LA. The 'low speed pursuit' that is allowed to go on and on and on and on without someone just cutting the fucker off and stopping things. I mean, really, the cops look like a bunch of monkies fucking a football with this idiot doing lazy circles, stopping, posing for the camera and just being an asshole. How is it possible that this could be standard procedure? It makes the police look pretty foolish not to ba able to shut this fucker down right away. They're going 4mph with their lights and sirens going- like it's accomplishing something :wtf. Why can't 2 units get on either side with one in front and behind, box him in and just stop???????

I think it's exceptionally dangerous for the coppers to get up at that angle- dangerous with regard to getting shot at. Best stay back and let the bad guy see nothing but lights.

Boxing in a car is against their rules of engagement...

So you have to assume he's armed....that's understandable. But what would stop him or his asshole buddy from opening fire when the vehicles are going slowly like that? The units being so close seem to be placing them in harm's way. Stopping the car right away would seem to be the thing to do. It could easily escalate into a high speed pursuit the longer it's allowed to go on.

It would make me fucking crazy to have to chase a douchebag like that. I would want to just ram him and crash him out NASCAR style. I couldn't be a cop- I'd have shot the fucker.

Policies and practices like theirs don't happen overnight.

It comes from lawsuits, bad press, and major crashes/injuries.

If bad shit happens, ya' try something else. Ya' keep trying till bad shit happens again. Then ya' try something new.

Someday, LAPD will do something besides what they do now...but ramming, forcible stops, etc...can look bad on TV, cause damage to vehicles, and cause injuries. Following around aimlessly doesn't do any of those.

A major part of their problems seems to be the public spectacle that these things have become. Everyone wants their 5 seconds of fame...even if it means a 3056 hold. Doesn't make sense to me, but that's probably why I'm not a criminal.

Dude!....:laughing :laughing

I use to live in L.A. for bout 5 1/2 years, that shit would be on T.V. every single day.... and I MEAN every day.....

Dont ask me why but they would just chase and chase and chase....... The whole thing would be on prime time for hours, till the guy ran out of gas or something.....

I got sooooo sick of seeing that crap on T.V..... WTF is right....

Well, since you asked, they are letting it play itself out. A lot of idiots won't even have 1/2 a tank of gas when they start that crap, so sometimes chases stop themselves and by that time the whole force is mobilized against them and the choppers are overhead.

LA, unlike let's say Petaluma, is highly populated everywhere, so ramming/shootouts are less likely to go well. Keep them in sight, throwing their stupid gang gestures, and let it play out. Some chases have been stopped by a relative calling in a cell to the driver, others merely want some attention. The clowns you linked to are the latter.

Of course it would be ssweet to see that guy stick his head out and catch a load of 00 buck, but then the city has to pay out for "excessive force". If you want to be pissed, be pissed at the ACLU and LA Raza type organizations that vigorously defend their demographic to a fault. I wouldn't second-guess the cops on this one unless you were there, the gang shit is a warning flag, cause a poser can wield an AK as well as a real banger. Pray and spray!...NApe

Their pursuit policy is there to protect city coffers from becoming bankrupt by lawsuits (racial profiling, discrimination, excessive force, etc).

ACLU, NAACP, La Raza lawyers just watch and wait for the LAPD to even think about giving chase. A lawsuit is only an hour away.

reminds me of when i sub for a class and send a kid to the office for being a dumbfuck; said dumbfuck kid refuses to go, simply for reasons that surround defying the lowly substitute (namely myself in this case). so i gotta waste the whole classes time and call a vice principal in (wasting the VP's time as well), and said dumbfuck gets escorted to the office by the VP, making pretty much the same spectical....knowing full well that aint shit gonna happen to them..

some people just need a good, old fashioned, hard, ass beating. and the people in America who are in authority positions, need the power to deliver it when its warrented.

the above post in no way represents the views of the American Educational System :laughing

As a kid in Philadelphia, I was taught the following:

-When the cops asked you to move off the street corner, you moved.

-When the cops, 10 minutes later on their 2nd pass and TOLD you to move- you better friggin' move.

If they came back the third time-

Your choice was to pick one of the below listed items:

Thank the lawyers and the ACLU. These idiots put everyone else’s life and safety in danger but how dare the police use any force that might injure the idiot. Send the idiot off to Spain and see what happens when he does that (I know you have seen that video).

You don't have the training cops do. You do not know what they know about the dirt bag they are pursuing. You know nothing of the situation at all. Your comments are elementary and w/o any merit. How would you like it for me to come to your job and be critical when I don't have the training or experience that you do?

LAPD and LA CHP have been testing a variety of high-tech approaches. One is fleer tracking from their helicopters. Another is like a tazer projectile that they lock on with a computer and fire a barbed probe that has an electronic shockwave device that is activated remotely by police to short out the vehicle electronics.

One is like the spike strips, but is another electronic imobilizer that can be activated remotely. The last was a homing beacon that worked like LoJack. The barbed probe would puncture the trunk and begin giving a trackable LoJack signal as well as a powerful IR becon for the helicopters.

I think the are waiting for a system where we could have dispatch punch up the car by plate/vin and disable it via satellite, as a part of the OnStar or something. That would be fine for new cars, but not old ones.
