This morning between 10:30 & 11:00 I was travelling eastbound on 80 between Vallejo & Cordelia in the No. 2 lane. Traffic was clear ahead of me when suddenly a white Volkswagen Beetle traveling westbound struck the center divide. When it all started he was about 300 feet ahead of me, and there were no cars traveling in my direction between the two of us.
I watched as the car rode up the center divide, slid across the top, and then rolled over, fortunately back into the westbound side of the road. For a moment, I actually thought he had enough momentum to make it into eastbound traffic. As I passed the rolling car, it appeared that something, possibly the driver, was ejecting from the vehicle.
I was in a company truck, so I grabbed my phone, dialed 911 & told the dispatcher what I saw and where the accident was. It must have taken 20 seconds to call it in, and even that quick she told me that the wreck had already been reported & they were responding.
Something I'd be interested to know is what happened to the driver, whether he/she survived. I've been dwelling on it all day. I looked for info in the local news, tried googling it, and checked cad.chp.ca.gov/ but didn't find anything. It looked really bad, and I'm expecting a fatality, but I'd like to know either way, if possible.
