To any applicants, LEOs, etc...

Does anyone know what the eligibility list is all about. I finished my oral boards just had the chief interview (woo hoo!). I am listed as one on the list but I don't know what it stands for. Does it mean I'm first in line for being hired? Does it mean I'm ranked as number one out of the other candidates? Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Basicly it is an "at-a-boy" for doing good in all your tests and interviews. It gives you priority for hiring, depending on where you are on the eligibility list. There can be 2 to 40 on these list. Then they go thru and look for what they are told by government, ie. women, minorities, spanish speaking, farsie, chinese, so on and so on.

Steve,

Thanks for replying. That really sheds much more light on the topic. It's a small department, but I still feel glad that I'm placed higher. Unfortunately I am not a veteran. I do, however, speak Japanese (chotto chisai) and Spanish (un pocco...)

I'm pretty sure it varies from department to department. You're best bet is to call the recruiting Sgt/Ofc and ask him what it means.

Ask him/her where you are ranked on the list, when the next opening is likely to be filled, etc...

The list just means you meet the requirements and are eligible for employment. The question is what number you are on the list. That determines who they start with to do backgrounds and further interviews with first.

It usually works that they if they have X number of positions to fill the will start the process on x+2-5 applicants. If they all wash out they continue down the list. Example: They are hiring for 2 officers. They will take the top 5-7 applicants of the list and start the process; the rest of the list waits. They either find the 2 in the group or they wash out the go back to the list for the next group.
