CHP was back up on 92 in the junction between lower and upper 35, doing directed enforcement. I observed them for a bit and spoke with 2 of the officers.
It was clear from what I saw and was told, that they were NOT arbitrarily stopping motorcycles without cause. They were NOT only stopping motorcycles either. Yes, they were stopping all vehicles for any violation observed; no seatbelt, child carseat, missing, improper and defective equipment and improper plate mounting.
The fact is, they let more bikes through than they stopped and every vehicle stopped was flagged to the shoulder based upon solid probable cause (PC).
So, assuming that is the way they have been running the operation these past 2 weekends and since it is clear they are aware of applicable case law pertaining to the Constitutionality of their operation, I'd say that pretty much debunks the previous rants that were based upon hearsay, lay observations and those oblivious to what was going on when they got caught up in what is clearly a lawful "safety sting" operation conducted by our boys in tan.
