Supposedly Milwaukee was able to put together a working ABS system and as usual H-D offered the bikes at a significant discount.

Is this a usual internet forum-type BS rumor, or is there any truth to this story?

One small step (backwards) for man........

One giant leap (backwards) for CHP.

Is your rumor newer than this thread, or just a re-thread?

Spoke to a CHP EVOC instructor last week who said, and I qoute, "Not a chance."

It's still up in the air. They recently started the entire bid process over again and there will be a whole bunch more red tape to cut before anyone (aside from the guys at the top maybe) will know anything for sure. For what the CHP do there isn't a better bike being offered than the BMW. Those who have ridden the Honda (the only other cantidate beside harley right now) say that it outperforms the BMW but the Eng heat and more sporty riding position make it uncomfortable for an entire day of riding. I have a feeling that regardless of what those at the top want the guys testing the bikes do not want the Harleys and the likelyhood of them passing the testing is highly unlikely. It's interesting that performance wise the Harleys did not fair too poorly when the LA county sheriffs tested them against the Honda and BMW (though there were quite a few complaints) but that they have failed the CHP testing miserably.

Rumor mill says; CHP is no longer part of the purchase process. The GSA has taken over and is hiring an outside company to do the evaluations. GSA will then order the bikes and CHP will ride what they are fucking given.

My bet is soon, very soon, you will see the CHP Union jumping in and raising hell beyond anything the Sac Bee dreams of.

Pass the popcorn.

So the Feds have taken this over? Is that what you mean by the GSA?

Sorry; General Services Administration- the buying arm (keepers of the checkbook) of California State government.

And the CHP commissioner has said that if the GSA recommends something other than what his people (CHP EVOC instructors) want, then he will tell the GSA to do what they want but he won't require his personnel to ride 'em.

Who did he say that to? As I heard it- the EVOC guys won't even be seeing the bikes or throwing a leg over...until the first delivery of the purchased bikes.

You're nuts if you think the CHP union is going to rollover and let it's members ride anything they had no input on. :laughing

If the GSA has the final say so: the CHP will end up with these:

A corollary to the old Army adage:

Your motorcycle was built by the lowest bidder.

Fresno PD are giving their test ST1300s failing grades. Along with heat issues, they have reported electrical problems. They want to keep BMWs.

Also, didn't the Harley have some speed wobble issue at a certain mph?

About 2 months ago, I was in a meeting where I heard the Commissioner say that GSA could buy any bike they wanted. But, if the CHP felt they were not safe, then the CHP would not ride them.

I'm waiting for the outcome of all this. Should be interesting.

The State agency is the Department of General Services - DGS (http://www.dgs.ca.gov/default.htm) - GSA is a federal agency.
