Had my first little two-wheel slide on some oil/oilsweep in turn 3 at Thunderhill today.

Two quick slips of a few inches and it was over before I could react (fortunately).

I really should figure out how to do some more dirt riding, but I don't have room for another bike.

I have always wondered about the sweep and just how effective it is. Apparently not 100%.

Glad you stayed upright.

Well, I wonder if it was because I was on the side of my DOT's; I heard one other guy say he slipped in it but nobody else, and an instructor I talked to about it said that he'd been running over it on purpose, at speed, to test it. He was on an SV with Dunlop Qualifiers which have tread on the sides, though.

Tread wouldn't make a difference with grease sweep. Only time tread helps is in the rain and (maybe?) if you run off the track in the dirt. I hate grease sweep. I crashed in T8 at Infineon because of that crap and went into the wall. You can only imagine how freaked out I was riding through it all day yesterday during the K@TT trackday, especially after finding out it was synthetic oil (grease sweep is not nearly as effective on synthethic oil as regular oil).

You are also smart to wait a few laps before you go out on a track with grease sweep. Not only are you less likely to find oil patches the crew missed, but when riders first go through grease sweep and it gets kicked up in the air, the dust can get in your eyes and it stings pretty good (found that out the hard way at Portland International 12 years ago).

Glad you stayed upright.

That sweep yesterday at Infineon was horrible. James Randolph came in on his bike with patches of oil on his rear tire. I was sliding cresting the T8a to T9 corner/downhill and that was with a 75 horsepower bike. I slide once at the carousel too :laughing

Yeah I ROD ETHRU THAT STUFF FOR A COUPLE OF SESSIONSoops,
I intentionally stayed on the race line and progressively got a bit more aggessive on it in order to prove to myself that grease swep worked, Well they reapplied even more at lunch and the first a group after lunch or third seesion overall I went out and had a pretty good rear wheel slide coming out of eight a at which point I pretty much lost my faith in grease sweep. I am not experienced enough at moving around on the tires so it freaks me out a bit. still it didnt really try to throw me off so in that sense I guess it was a good experience,

actually I'm only now getting enough throttle on out of corners to start spinning the tire noticeably at times. pretty soon goodbye to the days of four days on a rear on the litre bike.

Pity , but its the price of success.

Do American SuperCamp in Sept or Feb. That was the most fun I had at a riding school/day of any kind.
