I'll look into the specifics of attending with a passenger and post it here.

Come on guys this is a great chance to brush up on your skills!

Are you really looking through your turns as much as you think you are?

Hehe, how good are you at u-turns? I bet you can do better!

Ever have "oh-shit" moments and wanna figure out how to avoid them?

For only $75, find out how much of a better and safer you can be :teeth

Give some more teasers for the content, pls.

Is it in a parking lot?
Do I have to wear full gear? (if it's a hot day...)
Is it only low speed stuff?
Is it strict like the BRC or is it possible to skip parts of limited interest?

Yes, it is conducted in a parking lot.

Minimum required gear is a helmet, long sleeves, full-fingered gloves, and ankle protection.

20mph give or take a few mph.

No, you do not have to participate in the ERC.

Some of the techniques covered are safe cornering, obstacle avoidance, and mental motorcycling.

Given this requirement, can I infer that stock exhausts are as quiet as they come and that it's not possible to purchase a relatively quiet aftermarket exhaust?

I would love to take this class but I have less than 1K miles under my belt and my bike came with a Renegade pipe.

Enchanter I am surprised after reading this thread so far that not a whole lot of riders on Barf express an interest into the ERC. So far in here in the flatlands most of the students on the ERC were either Harley riders or some few Goldwings. No SVs, VFRs, or sportbikes. Good Luck.

Seriously. Even after tons of street miles and riding track for a while I took the class and felt like a dork not being able to do the figure 8s with the ERC. I learned a lot from you folks.

Stock exhausts are the quietest. 'Noise' is a pretty random thing. What some people think is 'sweet and mellow' others think is unbearably obnoxious.

Our classes are held in a residential area, and the only way to keep the homeowners happy was to mandate stock exhausts. I think we would have more participants if we didn't have this 'rule'.

Bump. where else would you be able to get a coach to help you practice stopping quickly on a curve or practicing on evasive manuever on your bike.

Hard to find a sportbike w/ stock exhaust these days. My KTM has it's stock exhaust on it, but somehow I doubt if that qualifies.

I am sure trhere are other places by where I coach in Atwater doesn't need to have a stock exhaust.

Awesome! Newark would be pretty convenient for me. I'll give them a call for their next ERC course.

I'd love to take a refresher course like this but I'm concerned about using my own bike: I have a 06 fully faired sportbike and 07 new harley (with lots of chrome :-) ) and I'm really concerned about dropping either bikes in the slow speed exercises! I'd like to hear others' constructive thoughts on how to get around this legitimate concern.

TIA,
Bob

Fully faired sportbike, you mean the EX250? What are you worried about, it's probably the perfect bike for this! It's not a concern at all if you have miles on bikes, but that's my opinion.

I wouldn't take your Softail, though the class I took, one of the guys had a Fatboy, and another had a full-on Road King, and those guys kicked my ass on some of the exercises... Your arms might kill you the next day though. :)

:( My Ninja has Akrapovic exhaust and though I don't think it's loud, friends have told me its noticeably louder than it used to be...

If you still have the stock can, swap it out for a day.

So how did it go guys and gals? Did you learn something new? Did this help to reinforce skills?

Seven of us, one on a cruiser (who did pretty damned well all day) were tortured incessantly on cornering, weaving, U-turns and braking exercises while not trying to kill those stupid orange and green cones.

Improved? Well, last night on my last trip home, I seemed to be turning my head more getting on the freeway and changing lanes. No surprises, but it kind of nice getting a bigger view of things without having to consciously think about doing it. Most of it, though, will have to wait to be used when required, like making U turns, avoiding obstacles (which I hope doesn't happen in the first place) and dealing with cages in the parking lot at the mall. Do I believe I've improved, though? Yup...

Coaches are pretty quick at getting out of the way during braking exercises, too... :blush

On the whole, how's Philidelphia (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&q=motorcycle+rentals&near=King+of+Prussia,+PA&fb=1&latlng=40011765,-75109938,8923650617677344042)?
