Hi Barf,

Names Law, and i've been thinking about the idea of getting into bikes. Took the MSF course and got my M1 already, and i've been searching around on the internet thru craigslist and of course barf classifieds looking into purchasing a used bike. I learned how to ride on my friends 00 gxsr 600. Anyways, i was recently referred to riderschoicewarehouses's website and i was browsing thru their inventory and came across several bikes that i might look into in person. Could anyone be kind enough to point me in the right direction towards a bike? I'll mostly be financing this as i can put ~2500 down at the moment. Credit score should not be a problem at all in terms of getting approved (i hope :cry ) I'll also need gear (helmet, suit, gloves). Any pointers? anything is appreciated! thanks a lot barf.

*edit* just realized that since i'll be financing this, insurance will require full coverage on the bike. hrm...anyone with past experience can educate me on some more info regarding what'll be the best method to purcharsing a bike new or used?

I'd say stick with cash, especially with a first bike. You're going to put it on the deck eventually, always sad to see the bank's $$$ shiny new plastic in the dirt. :wow :(

It might suck to hear it, but you'll find way better bikes in the $3000 - $4000 range. Save some more cash, skip the financing, you keep all that interest money for yourself, and your insurance will be way cheaper.

If you can't wait until you have that much scratch, you can probably turn up a decent EX500 or SV650 for under 3K if you hunt around.

:newbie Law!

SILVER!! :teeth (2nd to welcome a newb. :p)

Congrats on taking the MSF, getting gear and a used (hopefully a smaller - 250-500cc) bike to learn on! :applause

Do a Search in the General Forum here for more info, after reading the Stickied threads in this (Newbies), as well as Training Forums here on Barf.

Full-coverage insurance is very much recommended - call at least 5 or 6 companies to compare equal coverages - they will vary very greatly!! My quotes were anywhere from $250 to $600/6 mos.!! :wow
(Try State Farm, Farmers, Progressive, AAA, Geico, GMAC, McGraw, and/or any others you can think of.)
