Howdy,
I'm new to the Bay Area and to riding. I've driven some friends' motorcycles and I'm dying to get one of my own. Aiming for a 70s Honda CB350, but something similar might satisfy my cravings.
Would anyone be down to help me evaluate bikes that are for sale? I live in San Francisco, and would provide beer or food to anyone who could help me, either by coming out with me to look at a bike, or looking at emailed photos.
Thanks,
Rob

i think you're limiting yourself with that bike - it's going to take a bit of time to find, especially out here. i'd recommend broadening your search criteria if you want to get on a bike in the next 2 months. besides, freeway traffic moves fast in the bay, and is mandatory to get anywhere. if you're planning on being on the freeway, i'd recommend something bigger.
these three sites will help you get started:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/
http://www.motojava.com/
keep posting your progress here and you'll get great feedback from the veterans (which i am not).

ha, yeah that's me.
yeah, my friends tell me that i should get something larger, but then there are people who say that it's better to start with something small so you don't hurt yourself. i've ridden a friend's 250 and that seemed to do the trick, but then again, that wasn't on the freeway. anyways, i like the look of the 350s, and i like that they're easy to work on. i figure that within my budget i'm probably going to have to do some fixing.
i m open to another UJB, but i'm not familiar enough with kawasaki or yamaha. i know they make bikes similar to the 350, but i don t know the names.
i ve been hitting every CL from here to san diego, and motojava is out of my price range, but thanks.

:newbie Rob!!
Post a Want To Buy ad in Barf's Classifieds too, and use the General Forum here to ask for help shopping/evaluating - not many read the Newbies Forum. :( :p
Any 250-500cc bike is great to learn on! Read the Stickied threads at the top of this (Newbies) and Barf's Training Forums for more good info. Good luck!:)
