Well, after 8 years of nothing but fun times on police motors...I'm being reassigned. 7 years is our max, but I got lucky and extended a year.

This is my last week on police motors, with Sunday (4-15-07) being my last day. I'll be working up on Grizzly Peak at approx. 11:30 am till the sun goes down. I hope all of you out for a sunday ride will take a few minutes to come up and say hi before I get pushed back onto patrol off the hill.

I've enjoyed times at the wall just shooting the breeze with all the local motorcyclists while I was on duty. I appreciate the cooperation you have shown me, at least when I was up there, and all the times you great folks have helped out when riders were down.

I can truly say that the folks I have come across at the wall and on the hill are a great group of folks who all share the same passion....motorcycles. I've enjoyed seeing the variety of bikes that are brought up there.

I have enjoyed seeing the new bikes, right after you bought them, and brought them to show them off at the wall...I know this is a great feeling when you get that bike and I have shared in seeing so many new bikes, first time riders, and people that are discovering what a great road we have near the wall.

Thank you all for the support, good times, and friendship I have made there. I'll be off the hill, but not gone completely....I'll just be down the hill if you wanna talk!

So, come on up on Sunday...weather permitting, and spend a few minutes with me on my last day.

Hell, I don't even know you, but I went to Cal, got my first bike (KZ550) and had my first and only big get-off up there. The only time I wished a cop was there was when a gixxer nearly clipped me well over the double line.

If only the falafel guy (a pudgy and pugnacious Lebanese man) hadn't left, I'd be there every weekend. I'll take a Top Dog and one teary-eyed moto cop please. Ha!...NApe

I had know idea there was a restriction on how long you can be on the bike..

Now all of your bike time is just for fun or commuting.

Like said be safe and good luck.

What time does the open testing start?? :p

I don't know how long I actually have to take off motors before I can put back in...probably a few years. Maybe I'll wait till 7 years before I retire and go out that way.

As to where I've been? I've been starting up a web based business that sells tactical gear to police officers, military, and wanna be's. Once I have everything up and running, I'll come here and let you guys know about it.

Suffice to say, it's been a bear to get contracts with all the "good" major vendors (blackhawk, 5.11, etc...) But I have them now, so I'm working on my website.

I'll see you guys on sunday if you come up.

yea, I'm that bald motorcop you've seen at the wall....

Best of luck with the new career directions :thumbup

Quick question out of ignorance - why do they have a 7 year limit?

Brash it's a shame I didn't run into you when I lived in Oakland but I hope I get to meet you in person soon. I've always enjoyed your posts. Hope your new business is a great success!

BTW, I'm going back to bicycle patrol, which is what I was doing before I went on motors...so, still on 2 wheels. But better yet, this summer, I'm in shorts and a polo shirt as a uniform.

wow, that's too bad, but at least you enjoy the bicycle and you get to go back there.

hmm... bicycles and cops and motorcycles reminded me of something. Earlier this week I was riding my bicycle up tunnel road, and I hear a harleyish thing chugging up behind me. As it gets closer, I notice the bike is too quiet to be a chromo-poser cruiser, so I think maybe it's not a Harley, and wonder what is about to pass me. Just then, in one of the tighter turns, I get stuffed by a motorcycle officer on is ride, and dude is dragging the floor board all the way through the turn. I gave him a big whoop-whoop, it was pretty dope. That wasn't you, was it?

That said, I hope you hit a nice 12 on your cop bike before you brought it back to the garage! :teeth

much thanks for being part of our moto community, and best of luck with your next assignment. Hopefully your new web site doesn't mean you're passing the moderator hat to someone else?

Hey, no problem. I thought it was pretty badass, actually. I know the moto police put their iron to good use. I watched a bicycle criterium in Reno once, and the moto-popos that were leading and following the peleton were using the course like it was a track day every time they came around. After all, you need to know the limits of your ride, so you can do your job better, right? :cool
