Hey folks!

I am moving to San Jose within a month.

I'm excited to be coming to such a great motorcycle community! I have to admit the moving process is a bit overwhelming at this point. I still haven't figured out where (or how) I will live.

I was curious if someone could help me understand the area a little better. I will be working in northern San Jose, and I'm trying to figure out what my living options are. At this point I see that attached garages are quite a rare thing on craigslist, but I might be able to land one if I search around Santa Clara. I was wondering specifically if I end up in an apartment without a garage, if I can put all my tools in storage, and access them if I need to work on the bike. It was common in Florida for people to rent storage units big enough to fit a car and they would use that as their tool storage / shop to work on their cars. I'm guessing that might not be allowed as much anymore. If I do end up in an apartment, will I be totally out of luck as far as being able to do my own bike maintenance, other than things in the parking lot?

Thanks for any help. I've surfed over to BARF.com many times over the years, glad I am able to actually become part of the community!

:newbie It might be a little difficult to do your own servicing @ an apartment complex ( a lot of times your lease will not allow you to work on your vechicles on their site ). The living condtions are kind of hard and pricey, but the weather and the great roads we have here make up for it ;) . Good luck with your relocation.

SILVER! :teeth

Feel free to PM me for housing help - I handle both sales and rentals throughout the South Bay. Meanwhile, www.HousingMaps.com will help you weed through the CraigsList ads. ;)

One of the many options is to come out to some local meets, get to know us, and do the wrenching at a new friend's garage! :thumbup

Many of us are willing to lend the space, even tools if/when needed.

Another option is to bring it to a local shop like Santa Clara Cycles, Evolution Suspension, and many others who do great work. :)

Enjoy the site!

Thanks for the input guys!

I don't mind letting a shop handle routine maintenance like oil changes, but I have a bigger issue also.

See, the Texas heat really gets to you. I got so sick of slow-roasting in 90+F degree weather, I went a little nuts on my FJR: :teeth

Soooo.....I really would like to complete this project after I move (working on fabricating a fairing). The bike runs fine as is, but I really don't want it sitting outside until I get the electronics covered up.... I've been scouring housingmaps.com for places with a garage, I guess I will have to either jump on one when they pop up or just throw everything+bike in a storage unit until I can land one after I get there.
