What's up everyone? My name's Johnny and I'm new to the Bay Area Riders Forum and to motorcycles as well. I'm registered to take the MSF on 4/25, 4/28 and 4/29. Looking forward to learning AND passing but I've heard about MSF's figure eight being a bit hard/tricky. I drive a manual transmission car so hopefully it'll give me a slight advantage as far as working the 'friction zone' goes.

I don't currently have a bike but wanted a Honda CBR600RR immediately but after some research and looking around, I thought I'd start off with a Kawasaki Ninja 250R to start out with. Figured there's always time to buy a new and faster bike in the future rather than doing it ASAP and end up hurting myself. A precaution I guess.

I hope to browse and learn alot on this forum and perhaps, this being the Bay Area forum, learn of some up coming Group Rides and hopefully participate.

That's my introduction. Nice to meet all you BARF members.

:newbie It looks like you are on the right path ... MSF classes soon, understanding that a 600 supersport is the the best idea for your 1st bike, and doing your research about what you are getting into :cool . Good luck, ride safe, and have fun ;) !

um, have to disagree about the 600SS being the best idea for a first bike.

On my post I noted on getting a 250R Ninja from Kawasaki, I think SCC Ryder meant "understanding that a 600 supersport isn't the best idea for your 1st bike".

Er, I was trying to say the 600 is " NOT " the best scooter to get started with :nerd ... looking back now, I forgot to add the three letters of N O T:p .

Good attitude and thinking! :thumbup

Budget for gear (gloves, boots, leathers) and insurance as well.

Good luck with class and shopping! ;)

Speaking of gear, what are some suggestions on gears?

Especially Helmets. I've seen $200 helmets and then $400 helmets and everything in between.

i've had good luck with these guys. they ordered a jacket for my fat ass (it's impossible for anybody to stock apparel big enough to fit the likes of me) and it arrived very quickly. worked out perfectly and the price was good. :thumbup

Good site. Might plan to head down there in the near future. Do they try to 'make' you buy their stuff like dealerships would? I hate going to places where they try so hard to sell you something and lose their customer service in actually helping the customer.
