First off, 06 R1. Gonna get the rims powdercoated and got to take out the ball bearings. How do you remove the ball bearings, and can you use them again once they are taken out? Is it difficult to remove them and put them back in? Thanks for your replies.

I've heard it's a one way thing with pressed bearings, so I believe you are going to need new ones, plus the proper tool to press them in.

You need a bearing removal tool or a long, thin rod with a decent sharp edge. The center collar gets moved to the side and the inner lip of the bearing is hammered out from the opposite side.

Once removed, they need to be replaced.

Make sure the powdercoater knows to cover the race with something so no material deposits inside. The bearings won't fit if any powdercoating gets in there.

You'll need a bearing driver tool to reinstall the new bearings. This pic shows the bearing driver.

I believe the grease and seals can melt in the oven that bakes the powdercoating on. The parts have to be surgically clean.

personaly i would use a automotive type paint.clean rims with kronar.tape off bearings or what i dont want to spray.i done this several times in my drive way.paint comes in more colors than powder coat.

Remove the bearings. Order replacement ones from allballsracing.com. I got a set of replacement bearings, seals and a spacer for the R6 for around $55.

That was the retail cost of one oem bearing!

As are the majority of bearings. Be that as it may, my point is that they're less expensive than oem.

painting won't affect the heat treatment of the rim

yeah, marvin had a hard time getting them out. but I figured out how to get out the front. thanks. and that's why I'm powdercoating them, more durable, less likely to chip and fade. Also, polished the lips. Nice.
