What chain lubricants do you all use/recommend and why?

I've been using Motorex 622 for the past 8000 miles, but recently I've realized that I'd prefer a clear version instead of this white stuff. Basic street riding.

Thanks.

I use something in a blue can.. because it was cheap @ cyclegear... but sounds like you already found which one your going to use

My personal favorite is Silkolene Synthetic, goes on like WD40 very very wet and penetrates, then after a few seconds gets stickey so it doesn't fling off. Like WD40 it is clear and stays clear, so those who have gold or chrome chains they still look good and have the protection.

I've used Maxima Chain Wax for years. I like it.

+1.

I've tried just about all of them. This is what I use:

WD-40 sprayed on a rag to clean the chain, gear oil as a lubricant. Every weekend (average no less then 12,000 a year).

But now, I stick with the shaft drive :D

I ride aprox 150 miles a day back and forth to work. So I tend to rack up the miles.

<-- ooh! When did you get a KTM 950? How do you like it? Will you bring it to one of the east bay weekday lunch rides? Did you get rid of your 954?

I got it at the end of last year. It's the funnest (yeah, I know that's not a real word) bike I've ever owned. I sold both of my other bikes, so it's my only bike now. And I've brought it to every lunch ride this year. If you'd join us once in a while, you'd know that. ;)

+1 for Silkolene

I got to try several different kinds working at Cycle Gear for a bit, and liked the Silkolene best for the same reasons you mentioned.

+2 on that stuff. I clean the chain with WD40 first though.

+10 on the chain wax, I have tried others that supposedly "protect" the chain better than the parafin type wax like the maxima but it all flings everywhere. I'll take a little less protection for less fling anyday.
