Yana twisted my arm, talked me into a day of riding goat trails and a free lunch in SC, I couldn't resist.:p

The route-
Old Santa Cruz, 17, Glenwood dr.....

Stopped to take in the beautiful sights....it was soooo beautiful back there.:)

then through Scotts Valley and onto 17 to Santa Cruz for lunch.

We found an empty space, Yana starts busting up, I look over and she points to what we parked in front of.......(too perfect! I swear I didn't see it till after we parked)

After lunch we got lost due to road closures & detours but finally got on track on Branciforte.
We took a left onto Vine Hill, got up to 17, then decided to go back and hook a left on Laurel Glen over to Soquel rd.
From there we were on a mission! Find dirt!

We made a right at the top, to Highland a bit, then a left on Mt Bache Rd and onto Loma Prieta Ave....and miles of dirt roads!:teeth

The views up there were amazing!

It was half n half - hard pack and loose gravel crap. Good times on the steep downhill parts!

3090126-18.jpg

it was kinda spooky up there....open rolling mountains covered in burned out patches of trees and bushes.

so after cruising along these wonderful dirt roads, passing through 5 open gates, we find the last, most important one, the one RIGHT BEFORE the road, the end of this leg of our journey - Is locked up tight.:(

3090143-29.jpg

after extensive confirmation that the gate was locked (we shook the lock, it didn't open), Yana noticed a way around....up over a lil hill, through some tree's and down a small embankment. Lucky me, I got to have some fun.:teeth

and down. Believe me, this pic doesn't do it justice. It was steep I tell ya!:p

Getting back to civilization (paved road w/DY) after what seemed like 100 miles of crappy dirt roads, we roll to the stop sign of Croy rd and Uvas rd.

Names changed to protect the innocent.
The following wording may have been embellished for viewing pleasure.

Yana- "where's that dirt road by Mt Madonna?"
Mike- ":wow, really?"
Yana- ";)"
Mike- ":cry, this way."

so we sped off down Uvas, Redwood Retreat and up another fun lil dirt road (Mt Madonna rd).

At the top, we posed for a pic by this lil tree-

then.....followed our way around the tree and went back down the road the way we came.:p

Down to Redwood Retreat, down Uvas and home. The End.

Wow. What a great adventure...and in our backyard too. :cool

I remember showing homes up there in my early years of real estate ~15 yrs. ago (in my '69 Camaro Z28) - and I finally got to explore it again on a more suitable vehicle. (Knobbies would've helped, as would by dirtbike boots ;))

There were some sandy, gravelly, steep parts, and navigating around the huge potholes was a challenge at times. Hard to believe so many folks live up there! :hand

Next time we'll need to find the 'right' way out - via Casa Loma, not Croy Rd. :laughing

What a blast on both 'trails'!! :applause

Yana:banana

1) Dump those crappy street tires, get some TKC-80s 150 rear 130 front goes right on the rims.

2) Take those new tires and do some really stupid off road fun.

3) ???

4) Profit!

Thanks for sharing the road trip. Great pix! Got me day tripping of doing some of those SC back roads :)

serious adventure riding !!! :thumbup

and that "lil' tree" is :loco
