I've been riding for about three months now and am comfortable on streets, freeways and some easy twisties as long as I set my pace at my riding skill level. I've been riding to work everyday and some weekend rides with groups as well.
I am planning to ride to Sacramento and back this weekend, leaving after work on Friday and coming back Saturday afternoon. It's going to be about 140 miles each way. Does anybody have any suggestions/tips for a first time long distance ride like this?
Thanks!

Why torment yourself? Just drive. Cell phone, Bux and tunes all close at hand. I like to save my riding for when it's the most fun, like posing at Santana Row.
But if you insist on riding, I recommend that you listen carefully to what your body tells you. If you are tired, too hot, or losing focus, pull over and rest. I can't tell you how important listening to your instincts are when you ride. I've heard it from others and have experienced its benefits first hand.

Maybe i'm not the best person to being commenting here, as a few days after i completed the MSF and got my license, i rode from san diego to san francisco in a day. It's really not a big deal...just take a stop about halfway through. Honestly, the boredom is more of a thing to worry about than anything else...when you start drifting, you become less aware of what's around you. Stay focused, and you'll be fine.

Agreed. Also, riding a motorcycle on 80 is almost as boring as being in Sacramento. :toothless

Isn't it illegal to have earphones in both ears while riding?

I don't know, but i've been pulled over multiple times with earplugs, earphones, earbuds, and the cops have never said anything about it.
