View Full Version : Filming at Infineon this weekend
What's up all. As fate would have it, beyond being a BARFer, I'm a pro videograher and got hired to film this weekend at Infineon. Just putting a shout out to everyone before the weekend gets going. This is my first time filming at Infineon, any recomendations on which corner's got the bitchinist angle of the riders?
Whatever the case, I'll be seeing everyone on Friday and all of Sunday.
Oh, and the real name's Jeff.

right on jeff see you there. and welcome to barf!!!
I think that the best pics are shot at turns 2, 7 and 9. It's easy to find a great angle. See ya there.

The three mentioned above are some of the safer/easier shots, I like the inside of T4 in the AM, nice close low angle, Top of T5, mid day you almost shoot straight down, T8 exit from the hill just below the stands, gets you a nice shot of the esses and the bigger bikes will wheelie down the hill to T9, Braking for T9, lots of dancing rear wheels, Entrance and Exit of T1 from the dragstrip. That ought to keep you busy for awhile.
Right on. Thanks for all the info. Looks like it's going to be an orgy of footage by the end of the weekend.

You may consider talking with the AFM and seeing if theyll allow you access areas where photographers and cornerworkers get. I dont know if they require credentials for that kind of thing or classes etc. Just thought it might be a good way for all involved to gain a litte exposure :)

Credentials are required from the AFM for Saturday and Sunday. Fridays being run by one of the trackday providers. No class required that I know of, but you will need to check with the club president for credentials if you want access to more than the normal spectator areas.

I emailed the Infineon staff one day about it, the response I got is as follows:
To receive a credential for an Infineon Raceway event, you’d need to be shooting on assignment for a recognized publication. The editor of that publication would need to submit a credential request on your behalf at least three weeks in advance of the event. Unfortunately, we are unable to credential freelance photographers.

As Mike 152 said, You may be able to get "freelance" photog credentials by talking to AFM officials:
Kevin - President
or
Barbara - race director
- usually hanging out right around the start finish line at the start of the day (7:00am ish)
(likely to be a mob of people oddly dressed in matching white clothing )
Good luck

This is true for AMA, NASCAR and the like. But unless things have changed this year the AFM was responsilbe for photo credentials at their events.

You will need to talk with the AFM club Pres Kevin Smith, he's the one that hands out the credentials for an AFM weekend. Have you shot on a race course before? Don't wear any of the flag colors, white is best, listen to the corner workers and DO Not stand in an impact zone. Bikes are easier than cars in that they tend to travel in a straight line once they lose traction.
Thanks for all the advice. I'll definitely be picking my locations carefully.
The way this whole thing got started, is one of the racers, Matt I believe, wanted to do a documentary on the race season. A colleague of mine is producing the documentary and hired me on as a videographer. The sense that I've gotten is that all the foot work surrounding rights to film had been taking care of.
I can't personally vouch for that, guess we'll find out tomorrow.

It's like being told you can't park in front of Starbucks anymore.

What's up guys. Just got back from Infineon with a quick stop to the 80 / 580 cluster fuck for some shots. Couldn't resist, I live pretty close and had all my gear with me. Got some great footage. It was a blast going out and finding good angles of the track. It was an exceptionally moto weekend for me as I purchase my first bike on Friday afternoon. Stoked!!!! :ride Over 5 years of waiting for it to happen, and I finally got me a nice '05 SV650 nekid. :leghump Must have been some weird moto mojo in the cosmos this weekend. Happened so quick I haven't even got all me gear together.
Anyway. If I get clearence on the footage, I'll be putting together some clips and upload it to Youtube or put a higher res version on my website. (If there's enough space)
Question on etiquette. I got a pretty good shot of a slide out coming out of turn 3/a. You guys wanna see it, or should I leave said rider's ego intact and leave it out? Only got the slide not the bike going down.
And to everyone out at there this weekend. Thanks for a great show. Much respect for everyone out there. This was also my first foray into the bay area moto community. It was a great experience, and I'm looking forward to the next rounds of the series.
Alright, I'm gonna stop yapping, stare at my new ride for a couple of minutes then grub out some phò.

The best racers like to see what happened. Even if it's of a bad event. Post it up.

any progress on the video? :)
Yeah, I'm slapping together a few clips this evening. I new project came across just came across my schedule book.... a new/first bike. Turned out to be lil more of a project than I wanted it to be. Nothing major just some tail lights and a brake light that doesn't want to work.
