View Full Version : CC Rider MSF Course - lost certificate

Some years back, my son passed the MSF Course, and got a certificate in the mail to show the DMV. Well, other things were going on, and he did not get around to going to the DMV. Then he lost the certificate. I did some googling, and I cannot find the course provider "cc rider" who conducted the course, but heard from one source that they are no longer in business. It was at SF city college, in the big lot.
So,
(1) How old can a course certificate be and still be valid to get your M-1?
(2) Does anybody know how to reach the cc rider people, so I can determine if they can give him a replacement certificate?
(3) Why am I doing this for a 22 year old kid, who could do it for himself?

CC-RIDER was the phone number for the CA State program, not the business that offered the course. The business that your son took the class from is still providing classes at SF City college. You can find their website in this thread: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=156898
The certificate (DL389) does not expire. If they have a record of your son taking the class, they will be able to re-issue the cert. after he (your son) submits a written request.

I can verify it doesn't expire. I took the MSF course and got my cert in July of 2005, and used it to get my license on March 9, 2007.
However, I really don't recommend letting that much time lapse between passing MSF and getting your M1 and starting to ride regularly. I personally wish I hadn't, because there are things I learned in MSF that I know I've forgotten now.
I'm seriously considering taking it again as a refresher, then taking the advanced course in six months to a year.

+1! Same with me, I really want to take the MSF again...I won't be all afraid of dropping the bike and getting kicked out of the class since it I won't be depending on the certif., since I already have my M1. I want to work on my counter-steering and quick stops. (sry 2 hi-jack!)

To all,
I agree with the idea that my son should take the MSF course again. It has now been 5 years, so he does need the refresher. Or, since he is riding one of MY bikes, threaten to not let him use it except to go out practicing with me until I am sure he is ready to deal with the hazards of street riding.

I would have him retake the course. Remember, those guys have been trained (I assume) how to teach to ride and know what mistakes to look for. Heck, you can sign up for just the riding portion of the class. He can read from books the class room portion.
