Questions about my MyChron

I have a My Chron Light. It is an older unit. Red face. Similar controls to the Mycron II, but less features.

When I turn it on, it immediately starts running up the time on lap 1. Is that normal?

I thought it shouldn't start till it crosses a beacon.

they all start right off, the first lap is meaningless any way, just punch it on as you leave the hot pits.

Was there a beacon out over the weekend? The damn thing does not pick up any times. Just turns off and says no data when I turn it on. pos.
