Wow! What a shocker. Some great racing ( according to the posted results), with Jeff Hagan taking SECOND in F40 on an SV650!!!! And in the top third of 600 Superbike. That guy can ride, can't he? O yeah he won 650 Twins of course.

Bad boy Matt Lai, back from time off comes from the back of the pack to take 11th in 650 Twins, go MATT! Our own Mackey Stingray in the top ten in 650 Twins!!!! Yeah Calvin! Damn girliebikes :)

And not to mention it was entertaining on the track as well. What was with all the debris?!?! :laughing. There was everything on the track from muffler packing in numerous locations, a sparkling gold rearset (I think it was a rearset), a crushed Rockstar can, and even a belly pan.

It was a mess, but a lot of fun once we finally got started.

Hagan's an animal. He got 1st in 650T and FIV, 2nd in F40, 2nd in Open Twins and I think 12th in 600SB...ALL ON HIS SV!!!!

Correct, he 'only' got 5th. I need new glasses. Still not too shabby.

Thanks Ernie! And congrats to Calvin - you have definitely got your shit squared away and are making it happen! I look forward to racing with you this season -- please don't go so fast next time.

650T was a bit of a mess. . . felt like a 600 production class, especially starting on Row 9. First green flag was a horrendous start for me, but the restart was much better and I gained a few positions. Hopefully I can get a better grid spot next weekend and maybe get a chance to follow the lead pack for a short while.

FIV is my bad luck race, I crashed on the white flag lap in T4 trying to track down that Oliver dude. I came into the pits and my wife said: "you suck." Gotta love the girl!

Good weekend overall. I have really got to thank you Ernie for your help in getting me to the track this weekend - I couldn't have done it without you. Friday practice with you was of great benefit as well. I'm so sorry your engine DNSed you on Sunday. Thanks too to BRG racing for cleaning up my jetting and giving me some shade on Sunday. I look forward to strapping my POS SV on kc's dyno to eek out a pony or two.

See y'all next weekend.

How 'bout Aaron giving Hagan a real run. Aaron got ahead of Hagan at least once and was a threat to the finish

I wish I had seen the race instead of read the results. Aaron has gotten so fast in two short years. Awesome.

It was pretty much a nail biter to the finish. Aaron almost got him but came up just short by a wheel.

Ducky said that I almost kicked you in the head when you passed me around the outside in 3A. My front tire got onto the paint on the curbing and went. The front started into a huge head shake and both my feet came off the pegs. I was surprised that I saved it.

I ran out of talent on the brakes entering 9 a lap later. At least I had company out there to watch the rest of the race with.

Can one of you explain for the uninitiated (me) why the 600's race, #12 I think, was stopped? I never heard the explanation.

Oh, btw. Calvin, you were loosing you packing throughout the track. You bastard. I got hit by some out of 4.

FYI...

Hagan also goes fast and well because his mechanic works harder than just about anybody. (tho begrudgingly at times).

He took first in F4, first in 650T's, second in F40, started in the last row of open twins and finished 5th and finished 11th or 12th in 600 super.

He changed from dunlops to Bridgestones on friday and crashed before finding a chassis setup better suited to the new tires.
Afterwhich they worked fine, obviously.

Major crash repair...
4 jetting changes, a gearing change, broken handlebar, footpeg fairing bracket, multiple seat brackets, brake fading problems, ...and this was just friday practice.
New throttle cables were soldered up for a new quick throttle setup on Saturday (there are six cables on an SV). This is the same setup that allegedly gave Ken Hill some trouble this weekend. This does not inspire confidence in Hagan's mechanic when he on the ground adapting cables...any one of twelve soldered ends can fail and cost his first place rider the whole weekend. Armpits are sweating.

As a result of these efforts he only missed one practice session the entire weekend, despite Friday's end of day crash.

Now a bike that has been thrashed by the monster himself for two days is facing a day of FIVE races. Tire warmers fuel, adjustments and maintainence are quite a handful on a bike getting raced five times.

Regarding Aaron's catch up...

Unfortunately Jeff's bike was set up a little too rich as the mechanic had anticipated a cooler day on sunday. Leaning the bike brought it back nicely and Jeff was reminded that nothing is a given. He commented that he had backed off a bit too much in trying to get the bike through the day. Jeff's mechanic is supposed to signal him if someone is closing. I think he too under estimated Aaron's drive.

Jeff is an awesome rider with very devoted support and I am sure if he was here he would thank his mechanics Matt and Lee,
his sponsor Art Chambers, and his support by BRG Racing, Kenny Augustine, Bridgestone Tires, and the racers who helped, lent tools, parts and advice.

Thanks for the picks guys...see ya next time.

Wow, you rock!!!! obviously Hagen ran well, obviously his team and program ran well too, congratulations good show.

...now making excusus after that fact why someone could have caught up? Please. Bad show.

Hagen: 1.467...
Tulchinsky: 1.463...

I'm guessing Aaron was just riding the wheels off his SV as well. In fact, I don't see where Hagen bettered Aarons time all day, in case we are keeping score.

either way it was a great race!

Actually Aarron's ride was very impressive. Jeff is a long time racer and former top AFM rider and I was and am blown away by his results. That Aaron could hang with him after two short years of racing tells me that Aaron Tulchinsky (if anyone can pronounce it) is going to be a name mentioned more than once in the next couple seasons. And yeah, let's not blame carburetion for a finish.

bla bla bla...

you're right...apologies...all credits to Aaron....I should have made that more clear in my original post.
I'm not really sure what our fastest laptimes were.
I just remember the bike (and Jeff) seemed faster when I fattened it up for the F4 race and I didn't see anyone near him during that race and I felt better for it.

Cheers.

(I did have a shitty start :D )

Thank you for not taking me out in 7.

It showed proper sportsmanship to come and acknowledge your mistake after the race. I was glad you did that. Granted it didn't really bother me that much. I just remember thinking as we were entering "Oh wow, this ought to be interesting.. but I'm keeping my line one way or another!" :)

Did you knick my rear tire a little? I think I felt something..

Dan, you were riding great out there.

It's amazing the amount of talented riders that are coming in to the 650 class all of a sudden.

I sure wish I could get my head out of my ass and keep up with some of you guys. :(

Also, what happened to David Raff?!?!?!

WHOA!!!!, GUYS,...

I am sorry if it sounded like excuse making. I can see where it would appear that the post was made sitting in a chair on monday morning. simply was describing what I thought happened.
I asked him the second he took his helmet off why he had opened such a lead then lost it at the very end. (We had three more races left and I felt the bike was letting go.)
He said he "No" and that he had "relaxed a little too much". And that the bike felt a little "Flat".
I took action (and he took action) and I noticed an improvement in the next race. I only remember the margin of victory was not nearly the same in F4 as in 650T.

I would at this time like to make the disclaimer that I do NOT speak in any way for Jeff Hagan and that the post was not the views of Jeff Hagan nor was any excuse made by or representing Jeff Hagan or with his knowledge.

My apologies to Jeff.

Sincerely,
Matt Harrold

Hey Matt :D I'm just playing around. I can only hope to get a good start so I can get up there and play. I got as far forward as my times ( and crash avoidance ) could get me.

I think it's nuts how fast these little gutless things can go. I ran the same times on the SV as I did my GSXR. I need to step it up and figure out that 750 FAST!!!!

Great stuff!!!!

No worries.. like I said, it was a good race to watch, I'm glad to see so many guys stepping it up this year!

F4 might have been a close finish too, had Aaron decided to do his break-dancing routine after the race, not during. ;)

Congrats to Jeff, and to his crew!

Deadtired
05-01-2007, 05:42 PM
ahhh, that explains a bit...I didn't realize Aaron wasn't there for the end of F4. It may well have been interesting indeed.

By days end the bike was jumping out of gear and it's tongue was wagging. (same was holding true for me now that I think about it)
It likely was not getting any faster and I was fooled by Aaron's abscence making me just THINK we'd picked up the pace a bit. (I need a stopwatch)

Having said that............

I'd better put on a pot of coffee, get myself downstairs and start building him an engine .....right now.

Humbly,
_Matt

I want a "crew" :whaaa :whaaaa ;-)

Jeff and Lee and I are always happy to help anyone we can. Short of changing your tires for you, if you're struggling with something, please feel free to approach us, happy to help if we/I can.
We don't really have one of those big race transports with a welder and milling maching but...
we do occasionally stay at a Holiday Inn.

New daddy from what I've heard. It was last week and I don't think he actually gave birth, so I'm really not sure why he didn't show.

HEY! EASY WILL!

Yeah... we had a baby so I was doing the family thing. I would have loved to be there, but I think the locks would have been changed on the house by the time I got home Sunday night.

...Plus I had to change the jets on my carburetors...

YES YOU DO! Go faster young man!! And Faster, and faster, and BTW, time to concentrate on the SV versus the 750, that jinxed and posessed bike! You need the 750 to have an exorcism!
You rode great!

what's amazing is that this clutch was almost totally in place when I remove the pressure plate. One could not tell the damage was there until the first friction plate was removed.
