sorry if this is in the wrong forum but the other forums didn't have any topics like this.
anyhow, i just bought a 2003 suzuki sv650s for $3900 and i was wondering if i over-paid, under-paid, or paid a fair price. the bike has about 7,000 miles and a clean title. it was dropped once and has a few scratches on the front fairing and rear fairing but nothing major. the bike does not have any lower fairings. i looked at kbb retail and it came in at $4295 w/fairings; trade-in was $2950 w/fairings.
obviously, if i over-paid then it's too late but i was just curious as to what everybody else thinks. the bike is hard to find and easy to learn on so i thought i got a good price.

I think that's a really good deal for a fuel-injected SV with super-low miles. For comparison, I sold a 2000 SV650 with a salvage title and a dent in the tank for $2800 last june

I think it is a fair price, but what really matters is are you happy with your purchase for the price? If you are then, you didn't get ripped off.

well yea i'm happy with the price i got it for... until i sat down and thought about other people that say the same thing to themselves.
when you're the one buying the bike... you make yourself believe you got a deal when in actuality you could have over-paid $1000. in this case, over paying $1000 is sarcastic but i could have over-paid or under-paid give or take a few hundred... no?

A. Sounds like a fine price
B. If you ask yourself this question every time you buy a bike, you'll hate yourself. A better deal ALWAYS comes along right after you buy something... never fails.
Example: I bought a knock-off Monkey for $650. GREAT deal. Of course, a week later I see a REAL Honda Monkey for sale in my area for $1500. Also a great deal. All I can say is 'Que sera, sera!'

Don't lose sleep over it dude. How you described it, it sounds like a good deal. Right now is beginning to be a seller's market, because everyone's trying to buy a bike and be out in the sun

Heh, thats called buyers remorse dude.
Shoo those thoughts away! :laughing
The only time you really overpaying for a bike is when you buy it brand new from a dealership and lots of people do that every single year. If you bought used, you are ahead of the game already!
Congrats on a nice bike. SVs kick ass! :thumbup

That's a great price actually! depending on condition, I woulda thought it would have sold for at least 4300-4500.

there deal is in the owning not the buying.
if you paid 10gs for the bike but put 100k on it and loved it for 10 years it'd still be a hell of deal even though the initial price was too high.
if you got it for grand and never road it for 3 years, then it wouldn't start and it just took up space in your garage or got parking tickets, then it'd be a bad deal.
BTW love your avatar

I think that's a good price. I bought mine last summer, same year. It had been down on the left side, though you can't really tell other then a slightly bent footpeg. It had 11k+ miles, the full lower fairing kit and a Yosh RS3 carbon slip on. for 4K. I was quite happy with the price and you should be happy with yours!

i wouldn't really call it buyer's remorse cuz i define that as buying something and regretting it or wishing you hadn't. my situation is that i am happy with the purchase... just didn't know if i got a good deal. anyways i feel better about it... thanks for all your input. c u on the road!

Its a good deal. I would have taken it. My gf and I just bought a 2001 SV650 naked with 11k, never down, well taken care of by adults, not abused, clean, for $3300. Again, I would have taken yours over my gf's if the chance came.

The only time you overpay for a bike is when you buy one and do not ride it. If it puts a smile on your face, then who cares how much you paid for it? My advice to you now is get out of this thread, never think about how much you paid for it ever again and go ride the thing..........:blush

I was seriously shopping for an 03+ sv650s here in Socal the past couple of months before I found mine.
Here's a couple of highlights:
03 Copper fully faired including lots of goodies (rear stand, gel seat, pc3, exhaust, etc etc) with 18k miles for $3800.
03 Silver fully faired, minor crack in upper fairing, 13,000 miles including some decent gear for $3700
03 Silver with Yosh can, some small cosmetic issues, with 6000 miles for $3100
That last one for $3100 I really was kicking myself in the butt for not jumping on it, but I eventually found my current copper 03 with 8200 miles, lower chin spoiler, carbon yosh exhaust, enthusiast owned for $3800. I think if you come out with an 03+ in good condition for under $4000 you did okay. Copper was the color I really wanted, and I got the color I wanted so I was happy.
