Are there any local 650 twin race forums that I could start looking at?
I am wanting to get itno the 650 twin AFM racing,
I went to Infieon last sunday and watched the races and it looks like a fun group to start out in.
any advice would be great, starting out I am trying to figure out how much I should budget for. and race fee's. The last time I raced a bike was in Washougal Wa on my CR250.
my plan is to find a allready prepped bike looks dont matter as long as it is racable and in good running order and not a pocket book killer, take a ZZ class to get my feet wet,
I found myself riding like a tool the other day and think its time to take it to track.:applause
I would take my Z1000 but I dont think there is a class I can run it in, and nobody makes a belly pan with a oil catch.:( Would be fun to race though. Suspension sucks ass and the engine wouuld not be able to keep up with today's ltr's 132hp is all she has:cry

I have looked at the AFM site :laughing
I guess my questions would be what do you think I would need for a budget to get started? would this be a good starting point for racing? is there a racer I could come out with on a practive/race day and learn a few things watch listen ect?
get race sv and go to ZZ rack day.
you will find plenty sv racers there to show you around.

Let's see - budget:
bike $5k (race prepped)
helmet, boots, leathers, gloves, back protector $2k (get race gear, and don't skimp - it makes you go faster :) )
trailer $500-3k (or back of pickup truck)
misc (stands, tools, a few spare parts) $200-500
Call it $7-8k to get your initial setup
Then you have to take school ($150? not sure - see afm site)
Then buy a licence $120
OK - now you need fresh tires ($300).
Now...you are ready to go (sort of).
Saturday practice is about $115 and race entry fees are $80 for first class, and $60 each after that, so that's $315 for the weekend (plus gate fees - $10/pp/per weekend). If you need a hotel, add it on. If you buy food, add it on. Water? Fuel? Race gas?
This is hard to do for less than $500 a weekend, and that is really on the cheap (and no crashing). If you travel and overnight much, it gets nearer to $1000 per weekend in a hurry.
But: you get to subtract from that all the money you will win from contingency and race purses when you start placing top 3-5. So you 've got that going for you, potentially ;-).

As you can see, it's not about the Q's, it's about the G's. ;)

Outside of Clubman Heavy weight, you won't want to be on the track on that bike with all the new liter bikes. Better off on the SV.
ZZ days will be perfect to get your feet wet. As Zoran said ( TWF :hail ) there are a lot of instuctors on SV's in every group. Just about all of them are AFM racers.
there are tons of people ready to help in that class, it is highly compettitive upfront, but everyone is always willing to help.
If you do a ZZ day, I'm sure we'll meet up. Several of us on here instuct fot them ;)
EDIT: I don't only talk about SV's, I ride one too.

Any of the "Open" classes should work - and I could use the extra points!

another thing about racing is you have to be inventive. No-one may MAKE one specificly for your bike, but all it takes is some mounts and a few fabricated brackets and waaaalllaa, you have a belly pan.
Suzuki didn't make the GSXR bodywork to fit the SV, but damn it doesn't fit quite nicely. Check out the bellypans made for Triumphs, or just get ANY bellpan and start cutting and mounting.
