On saturday I was going to go buy some new tires.
I have 3 trackdays one them
1.5 in C and 1.5 in B
(buttonwillow, streets of willow, infinion)
Never got around to it and as most places are closed sunday I just figured well I'll get some monday..

Last minute sunday I signed up for buttonwillow monday...

Saw that and figures well I can get 1 more out of them. (the rear slide a little @ my last one but i figured it was just me being a little aggressive on the gas)

Running stock suspension on my 99 R1, have had it set-up for my weight

So @ buttonwillow im having some fun. My last trackday I left feeling unsatisfied.
I was having a good pace as I only got passed by 3 people @ most and was passing everyone else. Catching up to a group every 1.5 laps

So on the 3rd lap of teh session... early in teh day.. 3rd session... I'm in a pace that im comfortable with and I go over the cotton corners. Not to far after exiting I lowside right off the track... still holding onto the bike. Im between the bike and the track until we go into the dirt.
Then somehow I get infront of the bike.. the tires catch at I was the bike fly into the air and land on me... Quite fun getting crushed by both sides of the bike (that large crash was from it landing on me)

Crashed right infront of the photographer but for some reason that whole session is missing from CaliPhotographys site

Im going to blame this on Stock Suspension and tires (as well as myself for not fixing that crap)

Im fine
Bike I think will be OK...

P.S. lost my small video camera right around there
If anyone find it I would love to get it back.

You can see a pic of it there on my take.. was held in by velcro & zipties. Im pretty sure it survived because its a SD cam.

Thanks!

Ive been pretty good w/ pressures. there is virtually no heat tearing on either of my tires

You probably hit some debris or fluid. Next time let go of the bike if your going down and get clear of it if you can. Damage does not look too bad. Heal up.

I got 4.5 days out of my pilot powers running at about your pace and they were still sticking great when I replaced them. It was on a 600 though.

I'll second you probably hit something or it was just a moment of excitement at a little too much throttle before fully picking it up? Maybe it's time to move up to Pilot Races or slicks?

Sorry you crashed. I get about 4 trackdays + street riding out of my Pilot Powers. I'm riding in "B" group.

I wasn't at BW that day and don't know what might have caused the crash, but I do notice that Cotton Corners has elevation changes right there and also an off camber exit. If you're gassing out of an off camber exit while leaned over, maybe that was a factor.

I see lots of riders go off track on Cotton Corners. Tough area and a very slow part of the track.

Good luck in the repairs & at your next track day.

Did you fall in the righty just before the wheelie bump? It's a very common place to fall, as riders are going curb to curb trying to carry as much speed as possible through there - it has ended the racer careers of a few AFMers.

Things start to go wrong when riders try to carry just a touch more speed, or apex just hair early, forcing them to add more lean angle as they float wide past the apex.

I wouldn't necessarily blame the tires and the suspension, but either may compromise your traction through the corner, and riders ideally should recognize that and compensate accordingly.

sorry to hear about your crash. i was there both days and it seems you were definetly not the only one with mishaps. hope you heal up fast.
