I have been working @ the largest powersports store in southern Indiana for the last 7 yrs. I worked in both the parts and service department. We sold Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and serviced all makes of motorcycles. I have recently moved to San Francisco and am looking for some partial employment. Do not pay high labor prices; I am much cheaper and just as good! I am very familiar with Japanese bikes from early 70's through current year. I can fix suspension, brakes, top-end motor work, carb sync and jetting, fork seals, etc..I have lots of specialty tools, and contacts within the industry for information. I also have experience with 2-stroke machines, both dirt bikes and road bikes. I prefer to work on sportbikes, but I will work on and have owned a variety of different machines. The only catch is that at the moment I do not have a garage, so you'll have to provide a spot for me to repair your bike. Can supply names and numbers to verify shop experience and local people that have already had their bikes fixed by me. Feel free to contact me with questions, 415-305-6096. elskipador@yahoo.com Thank you!

Just wanted to let you all know, Shawn has worked on both my street bikes and dirtbike, always does a great job, is happy to answer questions/ share info, always does more than I expect and for one hell of a good price!! Not only is he what everyone looks for in a good mechanic, but he's a hell of a cool guy too!

Highly recommended. :thumbup

I charge 40 an hour. No charge for drive time unless you live over an 1:45 minutes from SF. You supply parts. I've got lots of manuals and tons of tools. thanks

I may ask for your help on a valve adjustment on my 250. I have the manual myself. Would something like that be something you would be interested? I live in south San Jose, a few miles from the tuesday night starbucks meet.

sweet, i'll keep your name up for records. I'mma get a jet kit soon, and i'd like to get that installed, plus sync the carbs, and then do a valve job. How many hours would all of that take!? On top of that, are you willing to teach a tad while u work? That way i can do it myself next time.

Danny

elskipador
02-24-2003, 04:02 PM
hey faz,
I can do the valve adjustment on your 250! I imagine you have a ex250 ninja? if so we can adjust the valves with no additional parts, maybe a gasket.

rx7elmo,
To put in the jet kit from start to finish is about 2-2.5 hours. However this is to just put the kit in...additionally time MAY be required to get it dialed in. I know some kits, say f2, are almost spot on with the instructions, but others require a little more fiddling. The sync will take about 30-45 minutes. The valve adjustment will take 3-5 hours. 3 hours if all we have to do is strip the bike and check clearances....all are good, button it back up. 5 hours if when we get inside we find out some valves are out of adjustment, we'll then need to pull the cams and replace the shims that adjust the valve clearance on the valves that are out of spec. we'll get the needed shims from a dealer in the area.

thanks

hey elskipador,

how much would you charge to change out my stock shock and replace it with another stock shock. my bike is in SJ right now and i do have a garage where you can work on it. but i don't have any jack or stands. just wondering how much it will cost.

thanks

elskipador
02-24-2003, 04:27 PM
Just realized you meant vtr1000 and not vtr250. the 1000 has cartrigde forks, so count on 2-2.5 hours. sorry about the confusion. thanks

Does your garage have any large exposed beams in it? We can hang the rear of the bike very easily. Thats how i put on my fox shock. i've got both front/rear stands and a dirtbike stand, but no lift.....guess i'll be looking into one soon. thanks

elskipador
03-01-2003, 07:47 PM
it'd be a good idea to pick up both valve cover gaskets. the only other thing we'll need is shims, but we won't know what sizes we'll need until we measure the clearance and see what shims are in there already. we should plan to meet on a day your local is open. thanks

i need a ring and valve job or i need to buy a new motor and have someone help me install it. i don't know how... the lowest estimate i've gotten so far from a shop is just under $400 but they're all too busy to do it.
that price is fine with me if it fixes the bike.

An awesome deal with home service!
Recently purchased a salvaged bike that wasn't running too well.
And too worried to ride out for fear it might break down.

PROBLEM SOLVED, courtesy of Shawn. A great deal on the fees too!

Lets just say a couple of the craigs motomech posters wouldn't do home service or were going to charge for travelling fee. Which is understandable, but hourly fees were almost double!

Thanks Shawn,

To throw in my two bits, I heard about Shawn through BARF and asked him to take a look at my cbr 600 f1. He did all the work we agreed to, plus offered me a lot of advice above and beyond. He identified a pretty major safety issue related to my tires that I didn't know about (just bought the bike). Bottom line is that Shawn is really knowledgeable, enjoys working on sport bikes, and is really a top notch professional. I think we'd all be real smart to keep him busy enough where we can keep him in business.

See you all out there...

thanks! glad i got to help jim out. jims bike had a float stick and i think it drained most of the gas in the tank into the cylinders and motor. drain around 8 qts of gas/oil mix from the motor. completely dissassembled the carbs and cleaned them. the gas/oil mix had even found its way into the bowls., yuck. really just a big mess!! also did his brakes. its just to bad somebody over torqued both fork caps :flame 1 came off 1 didn't. factory torque is 16 ft/pds. these were closer to 60~70 ft/pds WTF :confused

Hey SHawn, my bike is running lean, i changed the spark plugs plus cleaned my air filter. I can tell its running lean becuase my Can is black. What do you think is wrong w/ it, what needs to be replaced, and how much time will it take? I'm in Union City.

well usually the end cap turns more of a white or gray color when running lean. black would possibly indicate a richer condition, but not always. my pipe has a little blackish soot, but i'll running around 6% co2 out the back. its neither rich or lean, but still have soot. i'd put some miles on the set-up then pull the plugs and see what color they are, before i started changing anything.

All I can say is... WOW! Shawn did a remarkable job on fixing my bike.

Little background on my setup:
I have an 02 R6 with and M4 pipe I just bought. Purchased the Ivan's jet kit and figured, Ahhh how hard could it be? I mean I'm a pretty handy guy... I can do this. Mind you I have only ever touched a set of carbs on a '74 kawi 400 and lemme tell you... was I in for a shock. Never the less, I started the install and all was going well until I read on another forum that I needed to readjust the floats... bad idea. Anyway the bike ended up only firing on three cylinders and gas in the oil. BLEH!

Shawn comes WAAAAAAY the eff out to BFE where I'm at and takes one listen to the start up of the bike and goes Yup I can fix that.
3 hours, and a veggie burrito later, a lot of great work and he has my bike running better then it ever has!!!!
Even fixed my clutch lever and adjusted my chain... "oh that will never Do! Gotta fix that!" Man I tell you, I am truly amazed at how well my bike was running! I think even Shawn was a bit surprised. It was smooth all the way through the power band AND I'm running with a K&N filter! Everyone told me that the K&N's and R6's are shyte! and I have seen others that can attest to this but for some reason, karma, fate, whatever the bike is running remarkably well! Gonna try and go back to a Stock yammy filter and see how it runs. Either way I'm ecstatic on the quality and demeanor of Shawn's work!

Massive Big up's to the Mr. Keene! Can't wait for him to dial in my bike next Week! OMG... WTFPWND!!!

DAMN BIKE IS OFF THE HOOK!!!

I just got my first bike, and had him helped me to do basic checkup. In 2 hours, he almost disassembled my bike and did a thorough checkup!! He even fixed up most of the minor problems, like loose cables. Since I'm a newbie and know nothing about bikes, he answers all the questions I had, explained to me in detail (not that I understand all the things he said), but did learn from him by just looking at what he did. Thanks man!

The throttle response is so much smoother now. I am in better control through the turns. I did have to take it easy since the front tire was new. I put on 100 miles today, 50 through the twisties and the chicken strips are still there (even in the middle).
I had to let an audi convertible pull away from me in the twisties because of the tire.:mad

send him PMs. It worked out great. Even though I could never talk to him on the phone we got everything setup on PM and he was right there on time at the right place.

Does Shawn only work on people's bikes that he knows? I PM'd him numerous times, and he doesn't return PM's. I called him and left him a VM 2 weeks ago, no call back. He seems like a cool ass dude, just feels like he doesn't care about more business. I don't know.....maybe he's just way too busy now a days. I see him replying to others Threads, but won't reply back to me. Just about to give up on this guy.

Where else does everyone else take their bikes to get a tuneup, besides the folks who do it themselves?

I like O'Hanlon Motorcycles, on Clara Street between 4th and 5th in San Francisco (415.777.3845). He's always done good work on my bike at a reasonable price.

Another satisfied customer here.

Shawn did a much-needed valve check and adjust plus a cam-chain tensioner replacement on my 50,000mile F4i. My only regret is that I didn't get it done sooner, the bike runs awesome. Completely satisfied with his work, I highly recommend him to anyone.

I just got back from getting my bike tuned up from Shawn. The bike is much more responsive than before. The plugs and the carb synch made a helluva difference. What can I say? The guy is a pro, knows his stuff, and is very helpful.

Hey Shawn, I'll be contacting you in a couple of days in regards to that water pump cover. By the time I had went to the Yamaha dealer in Berkeley, it was already closed. I'll try first thing tomorrow morning and see if they have it in stock. Hopefully, that'll be the solution to that leak. Once again, thanks for your help!

Shawn, what's up, are you busy? I've sent you a pm, left several messages on your phone, and e-mailed you, yet no response. I finally got that water pump housing and o-ring for my bike that needs to be installed. The bike is still leaking coolant, but not that much. I was wondering if you had some time to work on my bike again. Hit me up when you can. Thanks.
