Hi All,

I am looking for some advice on some boots. I was looking for a pair of riding boots that can double as everyday shoes. I was looking as the Sidi Sport TePor boots but I can't find anyone that sells them locally. I went to Motostrano but was told that they just started carrying the line and didn't have them in stock. I would like to try them on to make sure that they are comfortable and that the size fits correctly. I am pretty rough on my shoes as I have a tendency of dragging my feet when I walk. Does anyone have some suggestions on other boots that will protect my feet and will not come apart on the chance that I take a tumble off my bike? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Anthony

Howdy...

the Sidi Sport Te-Por is a good riding boot but, IMO, not a great all-day boot if you do a lot of walking around...

While it is comfortable off the bike, you will always be reminded that you are wearing riding boots first and "casual" boots at the bottom of the list...

For me, the sole is stiff , it gets hot, and the top of the boot chafe my legs when worn under jeans...

It's also a slight bulky with room for my feet to lift inside the boot even though the length is fine...easy remedy is to get like a foot pad like a Dr.Scholl to take up the gap...

What I wear most that is more for wearing all day but good for riding is the Sidi Doha...

Very comfortable for all day wear, great for riding around town or commuting, or short rides although I wouldn't list it as a riding boot first but it does the job and it has more protection than a pair of Nike and better finish / fit than a pair of Icon or Alpinestar in the same category ...

looking for a boot in this category, you will end up sacrificing one for the other: all day comfort with less safety or more safety will less comfort.....

have you looked into Puma's?
i ride with the Puma Desmo boots, extremely comfortable, it feels like i was wearing tennish shoes. it has enough protection but not enough for the track.

They do.. But only the Vertigo Tepor version in stock. But they also carry a few others that you may want to consider, like Daytona, Oxtar and Dainese. Generally, Sidi's are better suited for narrower feet, and if you have skinny ankles.

Now that's good information! I have wide feet, so I'll pass on the Sidis.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Have you tried any AlpineStars? They'll probably be more comfy for you. If you have a problem with dragging your feet when you walk, I would highly advise changing your shoes at least while working. Keep in mind that although many street /touring boots are meant for everyday riding, they may not hold up as well for someone like yourself.

But hopefully some BARFmen can attest to that with boots they've worn that have held up even with daily all-day wear.

Thanks MrsPeebles, I didn't know about the fact that SIDI were better for narrow feet ( I have feet like a duck). I was hoping for some boots with a tough sole. I will look at the others you had suggested. I have a pair of A* S-MX R boots that, after wearing then only a handful of times, are showing significant signs of wear. You know, I would think that these would be just a little tougher than standard shoes. I mean, if there is a chance that they may touch the pavement during a ride, they shouldn't grind down like a pencil eraser.

ive had these for over a year...

really comfy... i can loosen the top of the boots when im off the bike and they feel just like normal shoes.

i dont have a car, so i ride my bike everywhere i go. so my boots HAVE to double as everyday shoes. this pair has worked very well for that.

also, looks like normal shoes under jeans. works great when clubbing too. :Port :banana

um..

Sidi's are fine for me and I have wide feet....

plus I sell Sidi's ( not direct to the public) and the majority of customers are fine with the fit...

it's better to try on the different models...

I can't wear alpinestars cuz I find them too narrow...

and I can sell A*'s too...

Sorry, I should've rephrased that. I have found that Sidi's fit better for men who have narrower/skinnier feet and/or ankles. Not that they only fit narrow feet, but when comparing A* and Sidi, the Sidi's tend (most of the time) to fit the narrower feet/ankle better. Unless the boot has an inner lacing/cinch system that can tighten around the foot better.

They're pricey and offer zero ankle protection but I've got a pair of Dainese Limas that I wear when I have to do a quick run around the city. Otherwise, its Torque-Outs for me.

I had Daytona Roadstars for ~4 years. Put over 60K miles plus wore them every day at the office. Looked ok under jeans or khakis.

+1...My Roadstars are as comfy as any of my shoes. Daytona stuff is expensive as hell, but it's also top shelf.

+2 . . . you can wear them all day. I did a moto trip in southern France for a couple of weeks this summer and wore my Roadstars 24/7 on the bike and walking around sight seeing; they are comfortable and offer excellent protection without looking too obvious. Also, they tend to be a little on the wide side so accommodate the duck-foot problem. Helimot sells them. http://www.helimot.com/shopexd.asp?id=76

what about the canyons? :cool

they look pretty cool under regular pants, they have a lug sole and they're waterproof. i even wore them to a couple of track days although they aren't "racing boots" [and they held up better than my POS set-up "racing boots" that broke a zipper after a day and a half at the track :mad]

+80 million.

My Daytona Trans Open GTXs stay on my feet all day long at work, and they're just as comfortable as normal shoes. Worth every penny.

You might be asking for the impossible -- having a boot to wear while riding and for walking/working in will be tough. There are boots made for the cruiser rider that could work. Take a gander at these - scroll through as there are sport boots in there too

+80 million.

I almost bought a pair of Trans Opens from Helimot but they're kinda tall and felt really warm. I was worried I'd bake in the heat. The fit REALLY well, though.

I wound up buying the Daytona Spirit XCRs (http://www.helimot.com/shopexd.asp?id=162) instead. Lower height, less ... stuffy. What I'd really like is to get the Trans Opens too, for winter and rides in the Sierras and stuff. But that more coin than I can afford right now.

If you can't afford the $400 for a pair of Daytonas, you might consider something entirely different. I wore a pair of 5.11 Tactical ATAC Shield boots (http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/level4s.tam?xax=12446&M5COPY%2Ectx=28779&M5%2Ectx=28779&M2%5FDESC%2Ectx=Boots%20%2D%20Tactical%20%26%20Dut y&level3%2Ectx=results%2Etam&query%2Ectx=atac&backto=%2Fagcatalog%2Fresults%2Etam) for quite a while. They're 11" tall and look like army boots, but are way more comfortable. These are worn by SWAT teams. They're almost like a sneaker in comfort, but they're a boot. I paid about $130 for a pair I think.
