So, I noticed that everyone seems to be gettin' 50's lately.
They look fun as shit... Are they legal to ride on the street?
Parking Lots? What's the deal? I'm assuming you need to register them, right?

Thanks in advance...

XR50 are dirt bikes. By definition, dirt bikes _are_ FUN! and real dirt bikes are not street legal ;) :twofinger

non-street legal.

Yes, they do require registration. $21 for 2 years.

$1200 OTD for basic xr50. Saw one at Roseville Cycle yesterday for $4370, with lots of extras. Pick your poison.

FUN AS HELL!!

Yeah, was checkin' out the XR50's... But, my question is... I live on a dead end street, so, if I'm out there fookin' around, are the cops gonna sweat me? What about if I'm messin' around in a parking lot?

Thanks again...

We got rolled on at Bux last night and he just told us to put them away. Unless the cops are major dicks they're not going to sweat it.

Looks like we need to invite Nicky to the dirty barf forum.

Bad Dad

MOST of the time, cops won't do anything serious other than laugh and tell you to move along.

The only way you get trouble on a dead end is if the neighbors complain about sound.

Parking lots are cool. People are actually relieved to see people playing on these instead of big bikes.

We had the cops called on us in Sac behind some warehouses, across the train tracks from some houses. The cops rolled up with this really puzzled looks on their faces.. They ask "Are YOU the guys we got a call on"?.... I asked what the call was... he says "Motorcycles doing donuts and racing...are THESE the motorcycles??"" he just started laughing, asking us what the hell was wrong with us, did we have REAL bikes somewhere... THen just said "you guys were leaving right""

Thanks again...

Oh, also... Where can I get street tires?
That'd be sick to throw on some little M1's or somethin' like that.

Bad Dad

Honda dealer like $15 ???

I'm looking for a second set of stock rims to put street tires on so I can switch at will.

How does that XR50 pull you? My son has a Zuke JR50 and I fried the clutch after a few rides. Do you need to do engine work?

Hey ie6X. Go hit up the minibike section of BARF. You will likely find what you need in there. :thumbup

Fiddys are just HUGE money pits.

if you get one dont expect to stop and just ride what you got. You will end up dumping more cash in it.

just take a look at mine. Damm thing owns my pocket book.

Yea, just be careful of who you let ride it. Everybody will want to ride it because they see it as small and "harmless". Then, after they see you bust a few wheelies, it's like, "lemme try! cause if I fall it won't hurt like on a big bike". Roooiight.

I've had my spanking new CRF 50 for a month, and already it's scratched, dinged, scuffed, and bent. Ironically, hardly any of the damage has been cause by myself. Last night, my friend crashed it so bad he bent the foot peg bar, skid plate, and kickstand.

I bought this thing to simply practice wheelies and play around on in parking lots, and I realize it's going to take some hits. I can't help wincing though every time I see someone dump it. It's not like my friends are purposely trying to trash it, but shit happens.

Anyway, they are a ton of fun and do take alot of abuse overall. My advice is choose who you let ride it carefully. If you ride someone elses fiddy, try to hold onto it when you loop. Hopefully others will do the same on yours.

And one more thing, you'll have more scraped knees, twisted ankles, and sore butt cheeks than you ever thought could be possible from a small bike. Yet, the pain is so much fun. Good luck!

I have friends that put that 50 to shame modswise, I don't know what they are thinkin, you are right to call them moneypits!

a bunch of them have them street legalized, they have plates/lights/ everything. its fun to ride around with them, but you almost have to have a big bike to baby sit. its dangerous as hell to ride those things on the street with big cars around.

I beg to differ. They are legal to ride on the streets. You need some sort of lighting so you can be seen. Since they are under 50cc they therefore are considered a goped, oe something l ike that. My buddy has the law about them on him when we ride. We ride go-peds on long rides and stuff and we bring the fiddy and have not been messed with.

On a side note, my buddy has an insane go-ped. I finally ate it last night though. I pulled the throttle (already doing 15mph) and I was riding on teh center of the of the go-ped with my weight forward. Next thing I know, my hands are up to my chest and the front wheel is about a foot in the air ( nice little power wheelie, I'm 6'2 175. The front end came up like nothing) realizing I had no chance of saving this. I backed out of the gas, set it down and I would have made it if I didn't have the bars turned to the right. I'm now an offical member of the OTB Club. (Over The Bars) I got some road rash, but nothing major. I was so super glad I was wearing a moto-cross style helmet and not some skating helmet. When I hit he ground, I felt the mouthpiece scrape the ground. That would have messed up my chin. Sorry for the extra reading, thought I'd share a story about a go-ped that everyone who has ridden it has crashed on it. It is a death-ped!! [/threadjack

If I can find the laws on riding 50's on the street, I will be sire to post them.
