View Full Version : Race boot protection without the flash

Hi,

I'm not terribly happy with my current boots (Aerostich Combat Touring boots). A bit clumsy, and I didn't get the fit quite right.

My question is, do you know of a boot that offers ankle and toe protection approaching that of a race boot without the flashy graphics? I'm looking for something I can wear in the office under my slacks that doesn't shout "MANUFACTURER'S LOGO!" to everyone I walk past.

Yes, I know I could keep another pair of shoes at my office, but I don't go to the same office each day, and I don't have a place to keep extra pairs of shoes at each office I visit. Yes, I know I could carry a pair with me. Humor me, okay?

Thanks,

serazin

I wish I could find boots like that too. Every time I start looking for good boots and I find all the protective features I want the boots look like they need batteries for all the flashy stuff or they were stolen from a Tranformers movie set.

Maybe Daytonas? They have a slip over sleeve that you could I guess get in black only.

Or, not a race boot, about the Champion Airs?

Or the On Roads?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will look into the Daytonas, I had been thinking they were all multi-colored things, but a black would be great.

To be more clear than I was in my original post, a number of folks I know (okay, less than 5) who have come off in the past year have had injuries to ankles or toes. The appeal of race boots is the extra armor in those areas, and some of them restrict the movement of the ankle, reducing the risk of injury. I'm just looking to see if I can get that kind of protection in a more understated package than many of the race boot.

A couple of these suggestions are worth looking into.

Thanks,

I took that cop motorcycle class with a nice fella who had an old pair of these Daytonas: https://shop.helimot.com/shopexd.asp?id=79

I was filled instantly with lust. For the boots, not the guy--he seemed fine, mind you, but I'm just not built that way. :laughing

Those Sidi On Roads from Newenough have a good reputation, too.

I'll second the Daytona's recommendation. Go see Helmut, there are a number of models available all with top notch protection.

I have a pair of Oxtar Infinity's, which offer as much protection that I could find in a non-MX boot:

I have the Sidi Way to wear into the office, and they're great:

I wanted the Champion Air, but once I saw them in person I was scared off by the lack of ankle protection. They were like a sock!

I just had a chance to try on some daytona trans open gtx boots. Not sure I would pay $500 for them but they are really nice and very comfy, seem to provide good protection while still being walkable. Seem a good balance of protction and comfort. Also real fast on and off.

Also I am looking for a set of combat touring boots if your selling yours and they happen to be a 9 or 9.5

They have a pretty good selection, who carries these boots in the Bay Area?

No one that I know of, sad to say :(

I got mine off e-bay from a fellow GP125 racer up in Washington. Bought a bunch of spares from him then saw the boots one day. Got those too. Love 'em.

I think you'll have to buy from a Euro distributor.
