Newbie dirt rider

Ok, so after seeing all the pictures of you guys running in the dirt I decided I wanted to give it a try.

Just got an '86 XL600, where is a good place for someone who has never ridden in the dirt to start?

You can join us on Saturday morning at Hollister Hills if you want. Hollister has a lot of easy (green) trails and a TT Track where you can practice and get used to riding a dirt bike! For my very first time on a dirt bike I went to Metcalf. Metcalf has a special area for first timers where you can practice on short and easy trails.

Metcalf is #10 and Hollister #12 on this MAP (http://www.offroadrider.com/wher/ccal.html)

i'd vote for hollister too. the newbie trails are very very easy, and you can easily putt around as your skill improves.

I had a '86 XL600 back in the day. Can you say torque:teeth Blue red and white tank?

Thanks for the welcome guys. I think I will join you in Hollister this Saturday (if I can find it, lol).

I think the tank used to be red/white/blue, but now it is just all black. :laughing

Ive never been to hollister to ride, wish I could meet you guys out there but I have to go to a horse show instead.

When I got my dirtbike last summer, I started riding the fire roads up in Lake County-Mendacino National Forest. CC camp, Stoney Ford, Bartlet Springs Road (off hwy 20)....only draw back is on the weekends there tends to be alot of 4x4 dudes so you have to be careful around the blind corners. The camp sites up there are okay only pit toilets and you have to bring your own water. But the riding is worth it!! Trails are a blast...
