It's been about a year and a half since I've had my Scorpion, so I figured I'd write a little something about it in case some of you are on the fence.
FYI: It's Snell/DOT, fibreglass, and in that recent gigantic helmet test, it forwarded the most or 2nd most energy to the rider's head. Ouch! It's stiff for sure, whereas the EXO400 is C-F and much softer, finishing somewhere midpack.
Good initially:
-One of the easiest visor joint systems, super easy to change visors even with helmet on head.
-Angry eyebrows
-Removable liner and cheek pads
-Low price
-Air sealing around visor
-Low weight
-Good enough graphics
-Thick chin bar area, so half my face wasn't sticking out. Some Arais look stupid in that sense, it's like they forgot to cover the rider's chin :loco
Bad initially:
-Venting. Where's the venting?
-Aerodynamics. Much better than my old KBC VR1 in terms of lift and turning your head to check the blind spot, but annoying in cross-winds or over 110mph.
Still good after a while:
-Visor joint system still functions flawlessly, but some tape underneath started coming off. Difficult fix: maybe remove the whole system and retape.
-Angry eyebrows still rule
-Removable liner and cheek pads have held up well for the most part, they're still comfortable and soft, but the leather bottom of the liner is starting to crack, probably due to washing/drying. Easy fix: order new liner!
-Finish still looks good, with the exception of a couple scratches.
Bad after a while:
-Fogproof visors instead allow moisture to condense and drip down the inside of your visor.
-Scratchproof visors aren't
-Air sealing sucks, even with that leather chin skirt thing, I still get wind across my eyes.
In conclusion, considering it cost me a little less than $200 for the helmet, with a spare tinted visor, and a chin skirt, plus tax, I'd say it was a sound investment. It has held up well to literally daily use as my one and only helmet. It's been through torrential downpours, snowy mountain passes, blistering desert heat, and everything in between. I'd like to pick up a 2nd helmet soon, and though I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 700, I might try out the 1000 instead. Thanks for reading :banana
