I need some new brake pads for my K5 gixxer 1K and was just wondering if anyone thought one of the following are better and for what reason.

I am a canyon carver with an occasional trackday so I do not need racing type pads but do want to upgrade from stock. I had EBC HH on my last bike and they seemed great but sold bike before I could have a full run through them.

1. EBC HH
2. Galfer HH
3. Carbone Lorraine SBK-3

All three are the same price so that is not part of the equation.

Thanks.

These are the 3 I have to choose from as I have a credit with a distributor I want to use and they only have these 3.

The first two suck balls!
And the third doesn't work well on the street. They need to get hotter than you can get on the street to properly work. Sorry, looks like you're ass out.

Thanks but can you elaborate on "sucks balls" I liked the EBC on my 600 but didn't really get a chance to test except for the one trackday.

Suck balls = fading, short life..???

EBC seemed to wear out my rotors more than the Galfers, but both did a number on them.
I'm lucky that I have a Honda cause their stock pads are pretty good, but the HRC pads I run are freakin' awsome.

of the first two, i liked the EBCs better. they had a bit more initial bite and werent as loud as the Galfers. sadly, neither saw any track use so i cant tell u bout any actual performance difference.

EBC HH's have so much drag that it's not even funny. I hate 'em.

I had ebc hh's before and they had no feel in my opinion. They were basically an on/off switch for me. And as someone stated they can be extremely harsh on the rotors. I'd probably save that credit for something else bro.

Okay so all 3 of these suck? What would you all suggest?

I never had a rotor problem with EBCs but they are not my fave. All HH sintered pads deposit softer material on rotors, that is how they work.

on my 636, the EBC HH were dragging bad. Then they were fading. That said, they were working fine on my 748 which had Galfer Wave rotors.

I have been running Vesrah RJLs and by far they are the best pads I've had. Of course, I don't street ride much on this bike... for all it's worth

cheers

EBC HH pads are hands down the best cold weather/wet pads around. Once you get used to them they're great(even when it's hot). RJLs are great track pads but they have to get get hot before they work well. 10 miles of freeway in the rain will cool your pads down to ambient, I like the agressiveness of the EBC's, they work well when you really need them on the street....

They do tend to eat rotors when used in anger though....

well it doesn't rain much up here and it's not that cold either so... well don't know if it's that important to have to "best cold weather/wet pads"

I've never needed to warm up the RJL for them to break better. They're consistant lap after lap hot or cold

RJL's rock. Far and away the best pads I have ever used. The only problem is they are so good that I had to relearn braking, the pressure that worked with EBCs will put me over the bars with RJLs.

I got EBC pads for what Chuck said. Great weather pads. But as Hoolie said, they drag like a mother. I don't imagine that's a good thing though I don't know how bad that could be.

I'm hoping to try Vesrah or Carbone next.

FWIW I'm running Galfers in the K6 right now, but when it's time for replacement, Vesrah's are on the list. ;)

another issue to keep in mind when asking people about brake pads is a lot of people don't break them in properly or clean their rotors very well when changing pads or compounds. It's like someone telling you their bikes too slow because they haven't realized their are two more gears...

RJL's or OEM for the track, and OEM for the street. the RJL's have more power than the OEM pads, but I raced a whole season on a few sets of OEM pads and never had any issues. Some very fast club guys don't seem to mind them either.

Didn't know you had to break in brake pads.(in any specific way) What is the proper proceedure?

if you go out and slam on your news pads, of if you don't give them a good surface to work with, you'll glaze them or you'll won't get a good bed in on the rotors. Think of pads and rotors like velcro. If you don't bed them in properly or clean your rotors, you've only got velcro on one side.

Slow speed, quick braking, and then build up to higher speed, with quick braking. Then go to longer braking, slow to high speed.

That's just my deal, yours may differ, but it works for me. And, no matter what people tell you, every pad needs some break in.
