I have a 01 gsx-r 600. I went for a ride with some friends and the bike was running fine. We took a break and when i tried to start it again....it would start. but when i go to first gear and try to take off, it would die right as i start to go and release the clutch. When i leave it in neutral and let it idle, its fine. when i give it some gas in neutral it will just shut off. The bike does also have trouble starting as when i press the ignition it takes about 5 more clicks than usual to start. but once i give it some throttle it will just shut off. I have the kickstand up...in first gear. i also have a full tank of gas, did oil change about a week ago. SOMEONE PLEASE DIAGNOSE MY PROBLEM! THANKS!!!

does your bike have a choke? (carbureated?)
Sounds like you might have left the choke on by accident? (running too rich)

another thing to look into is that even though your kickstand is up - the switch may be broken.
but that doesnt explain the neutral high idle stall.

yeah now i tried starting it this morning....oh the bike is FI. u can hear the fuel go but now it wont start at all...maybe dead battery?

Check the kick stand safety (aka nincompoop) switch.

k i think i found out the problem. Its the recharging system. either the generator or the rectometer forgot the exact name of it...haha heard my year bike has had problems with that. So my question would be how hard is it to do it myself by buying the parts (also good learning exp but prolly will take some time) or go let rob check it out and do it at EVO which i dont mind either. Thanks!
