Can anyone fill me in on what the hot setup is for wheelsets these days?

Hoops? Excel A60's preferred or are standard fine?

Spokes?

Hubs?

TIA!

The Talon/Excell combo are the top shelf standard. There are less expensive alternatives, but that is the most popular.
However check out the alpina tubeless wheels at Motostrano.

The big boys are mostly runnin' 'sinis.

These are better looking, and aren't giving anything away in performance.

Carrozzeria. Excellent people, too. Check 'em out. No, I'm not affiliated, other than loving every minute of these wheels.

edit: I know who to get 'em from, too. PM me or Quassi888, we'll get you hooked up.

Any idea of what those solid wheels weigh compared to spoked wheels?

I would love 'sinis on my DRZ as I have them for track days on my 900RR. The biggest reason would be that tubeless and trueing are gone.

But I don't so I built a pair of 17s on Sun Rims with SS Buchannan spokes onto stock Suzuki hubs. Not a racer though so I went for compatibility and common available bearings in the stock hubs, and with the Sun rims they are taller in the center which means shorter spokes.

Marchesinis are about equal to the Excel/Talon (w/tube) but Alpinas are about a pound lighter than both. Tube/no tube factored in.

I remember when the 'sinis hit the market for tards, and they (and certain retailers) were making some bold statements in regards to weight savings. Then people started weighing 'em...:laughing

I haven't weighed these Carrozzerias yet, but now I want to. I can say for sure that they are much lighter than the OEM spokes that came off the bike- feels like 5 lbs at least in the hand, and losing the tubes is nice. I believe these to be substantially lighter than the Marchesinis- but that's taking someone else's word for it.

You'd be suprised at some of the people who are putting these on their bikes. If you saw them in person, there is no way you'd consider another wheel.

Yeah for $1100, I would get carrozeria's as well. Although I might have a hook up on both RK/Excel's and Marchenisi's...

I'm supposed to pick up my 250X today, but the guy hasnt called me back.. Hope he comes through, I'm excited!

I love my 250X tard. I ride it to work on the track and race in the dirt. I have the Talon Excel combo and it has worked great for me. Good luck.
