View Full Version : New Gloves
I've had my A*star SP2's for about 2 year now, and they're starting to get worn and crusty. They aren't really comfortable at all anymore to be honest. So I'm in the market for some new gloves. This time I'm willing to spend a lot more, since my hands are very important to me, and a 200 dollar pair of gloves is still cheaper than skin grafts or no hands at all. Some of the gloves I am looking at are:
1. Revit Stealth Gloves
2. A*Star GP Plus or Pro Gloves
3. Any of the higher end Helds
If anyone has any other suggestions on a very nice and protective pair of gloves, please chime in. I would prefer a kangaroo palm, as I hear they are very durable but also thinner than leather palms. I would really like to hear from people who own the Revit's, as they seem to make quality gear. Thanks in advance for any help.
my favorites nowadays are the Vanson 7R11s...
For only $74.00 or less, they are the best bang for the buck...very comfortable...
you may need a size smaller than what you wear in an alpinestar so best to try them on first...

I wear the Held Kryptons that are great...snug fitting ..
rather expensive ...
Where would be a good place to try on the helds? I hear their quality has went down since they outsourced the manufacturing, is this true? Also, I read that you can't clean kangaroo leather normally since it clogs the pores. How would one go about getting all the sweat and dirt off it then?

personally, I hate kangaroo skin gloves...or maybe the hype of them..
lot of times, the interior of the gloves remain raw and not treated like the exteriors in which the acid from your sweaty palms remain trapped and eats the glove from the inside out....but that can happen with leathers too..
but kangaroo skin makes me itch like crazy when it's hot and sweaty...good thing they don't make condoms from them...
I had three kango skin gloves and all disintegrated on their own... had cheap leather gloves from dainese and it did the same too..
also, like cow hide, there are good parts of the leather which can be considered competition grade while the rest is just general use meaning some parts are tougher than the other and treated differently and I doubt there's a difference with kangaroo skin...
just think some parts can be steak while other is hamburger meat...same as leathers..
sure, kangaroo skin are lighter and tear resistant than some cow leathers but it depends on which grade kangaroo skin vs which grade leather and I doubt the general public are getting the good kangaroo skin as the sponsored racers are getting......or at least the ones that are treated...
Ive seen a few full kango skin leather suit tear up around the ass area and others burst at the stitches...
back to Helds...yes, I've come across a few that had poor finish of stitching while the quality of the material is still good...the attention to the finishing detail needs more care but that can be said for EVERY manufacturer or maker and I haven't found one company without their faults...major manufacturer or even small local custom leather shops...
if interested with Helds, DO ASK THE SHOP what the warranty policy is: before Held had a 2 year warranty on their products but MAKE SURE YOU FIND OUT IF THE DISTRIBUTOR IS EASY TO DEAL WITH...
if you ARE going to spend big $$$, check out Helimot gloves...if any problems, they are local and easy to deal with directly...
I was a fan of alpinestar GP Pro/Plus but they changed to cheaper quality and detail finish and it really shows....
Interesting points about the kangaroo leather, never knew that before. Sounds like I'd be better off going with high quality leather instead. I looked at the Helimots as well, but haven't heard too much about them. I think I'll go this weekend to try on some Helds, as those seem to be the best bet as of now.

I've got the Racer High End glove and honestly they're great. I tried on about 15 different gloves and have gone through about 4 in total before settling on these bad boys. They are however kangaroo leather, but I've had zero of the problems that V4 has had with his. Maybe I got a good set or something, not sure, but they're pretty damn awesome gloves. Crash protection has been great so far, gone down once at about 65 or 75 and ended up sliding completely on my left hand as it got stuck under my chest and walked away without even a sore hand. The glove didn't even get that messed up, I'm still using them right now. But I definitely agree that it depends on the grade of leather that is used. Racer is a company based in Australia and there stuff is pretty hard to come by but definitely worth it if you can get a hold of one.
My one complaint about the glove is that it the stitches on my left middle finger we're done very poorly and in fact came undone just from daily use. The rest of the glove however has had no such problems. :2cents
About a year ago I remember people were raving about the Racer gloves and now it seems after they've been crashed that a lot of people aren't happy with the outcome. I've seen pictures and read stories where the gloves did their job, but just barely. I don't mind spending a lot on gloves since I only have one pair of hands, and I'd like to keep them in good shape.
I'm liking the Helimots after researching them more, they seem to be a great gloves and everyone who has them loves them. They are blinged out like a lot of other gloves, but then again I don't care about that. Also, I still want to hear about Rev'it gloves, as they seem to be pretty solid as well.
