Interesting indeed. Downdraft head with EFI, stacked transmission. Should increase power, and lower center of gravity. Probably the most innovative packaging of a single cylinder engine along with the BMW 450.

Looks like a cock and balls atop a transmission.

looks like re-badged Lifan to me.....

Genius! Now the fuel can sit down nice and low in the frame, unless it's all airbox above and fuel under the rider's butt, and the gyro effect of the piston moving forward and backwards will have a nice effect going through really choppy stuff.

So would the piston moving front to back make it easier to change direction
There's still the rotating mass of the crank to deal with.

Maybe the crank/trans layout allows the crank to turn "backwards", like the Maico MX bikes, allowing for better traction and handling over the rough stuff. Now that would be interesting.

Clearly the new Husaberg motor design/layout has been stolen from Honda.

No, its an Aermacchi knock-off...

Designed for easier servicing. It is a Husaberg, after all.

Guzzi Falcone, FTW! :laughing

That's a very interesting design, and looks like it's got great packaging advantages, but Liam, I don't understand your post about gyro forces and cylinder orientation. Can you explain? Are there gyro forces from the reciprocating action of the piston?
Thanks,

now if they could only get the carb to be in front and the exhaust in the back thenthe air flow would be straight through = better performance.:ride

1. The motor is fuel injected. 2. See Canondale for carb in front reference.

Ducati as well had a similar design for the supermono a long while ago.

It also had a interesting secondary connecting rod and counter balance weight that was used to smooth out the vibrations inherent single large displacement horizontal engine layout.

AHA!! I read something here: Husaberg motor (http://www.motorcycledaily.com/09november07_2009_husaberg_450fe.htm) that explains the gyroscopic benefits of this particular design. It seems that because the crank is positioned closer to the roll center of the motorcycle in this design, it will cause turn initiation to be somewhat easier. The roll center and gyro center being closer means that the gyro center (and this only reference the crank's gyro effect, and not that of wheels, transmission shafts, etc.) that the gyro moves a smaller distance when turning. Interesting idea.
