I have an old CR250 that needs a shock rebuild. Don't want to have to leave the city.

the suspension shop is run through/in scuderia. james and the guy that own scuderia own it together or something. not really exactly works it works. anyway the service is S.P.S or super plush suspension. i would think a re-fresh on the shock would be well under 200. its pretty much just labor, oil and some gas. however thats only if the shaft &/or seals are all in good condition. he offers revalving as well.

Wouldn't you be much better off getting a new aftermarket shock? Factory shocks don't generally have the best reputations.

They're not the most high tech shocks around but they're usually better than the stockers and they can make a shock for just about any bike. Plus, you can have it set up for your weight and riding style.

If they're rebuildable, you might as well get them rebuilt. That mostly consists of replacing the seal and putting new fluid in. Maybe replacing the spring if it's collapsed much.

The biggest problem with original shocks (assuming they're reasonably adjustable already) is not that they're crap, but that they're crap after they wear out, and people think the huge improvement in suspension performance is entirely due to the replacements being "better" than the originals.

I know a guy with a BMW GS who only buys unused "take-off" standard rear shocks for his bike after the dealer installed yet-another brand new Ohlin on a newly sold BMW. He gets them for about $45 each. They don't last as long as the Ohlins, and they aren't rebuildable, but when they're fresh, they work nearly as well, and he claims he's $ ahead going that route.

Had mine done at Catalyst - reasonable and good work. Also have prior experience with LE...why can't you leave the city? More options for 30 min drive (or just ship the thing).
