Has anybody seen a CRF 150, just the regular one not the R model, converted to a SM bike. Do you think this would be fun at Stockton or does it just lack too much power. Just wondering.

Yes it would a friend of mine raced one for a couple of seasons out there, 17's front and rear plus radial m/c and 320mm rotor up front.

The 150 F is a lot of fun at Stockton, yes the R is faster but I guess it depends on what you want to do out there.

If you just want to go out there with your buddies and have fun racing each other then the F is the way to go. It has a bigger frame then the other minis like the 150R, ttr125 or klx125 so it fits adults a little better. It is heavier as well but in the long run the frames will be able to withstand the pounding of a 200 lb rider where the smaller minis would probably break after awhile.

Maintenance is a snap, just change the 1 quart of oil every now and then and you're done.

The 150R has much higher maintenance schedules, much like the big bore motocrossers but the R has a lot more power then the F and is smaller too.

Amongst my buds we have 5 or 6 150Fs that we've been taking to Stockton for that past 2-3 years now. I can't tell you how much fun it is for us to race each other around that track. It doesn't matter that everyone is passing us down the straights, on the inside and outside, we're so focused on passing each other that we don't care. Kind of like racing to not be last but it's some of the best riding memories I have.

A couple of the guys are selling their Fs to upgrade to Rs, and that means we all have to upgrade to Rs so the Fs are for sale. Let me know if you're interested in any of the bikes for sale and I'll give you more details.:cry

I may be interested in the near future, but not at the moment.

2 friends of mine have crf 150's, and I have a yz 250. (we all ride those in the dirt.) They love their bikes so much and also kill me where ever we ride (trail, flat track, etc.) But keep in mind I am new to dirt riding. Anyway, last week I bought my wife a 04' Crf 150. I took it this last weekend to Metcalf and rode it on the kids MX track and I had a blast. A way better time than I've ever had on my YZ 250. Racing people around the track reminded me of being at t-hill on my 600RR.

Lately I've been tossing around the idea of getting a SM bike. So I put 2 and 2 together, and am now considering selling my yz 250, and getting a 150 with both dirt and SM setups.

When I get my yz back together, I'll probably post it for sale or trade for a 150.

Do the 150's have enough power to "back it in" on the pavement, or do you need a bigger bike for that?

Riding with the minis if fun as heck no matter what you are on. My bone stock ysr50 is a blast, despite being passed by those pesky 150 mafia guys. :twofinger

I don't know if it's so much that you need power but skill to back it in. Heck didn't we all back in our Schwinns, or mountain bikes for you young'uns?

You can get the back wheel to break loose from engine braking when you drop 2 gears at once. Even easier if it's wet :teeth

Before you drop a grand for 17" wheels then tires try mounting Bridgestone BT45s to your stock dirt wheels and head out to Stockton for a go at it. They stick almost as well as slicks on these lightweight bikes.

By the way there is a trackday at Stockton this Sunday the 18th :ride

I have a CRF150F that I did a full SM conversion on. It is a great bike. Not quite as quick as the new 150R's....but pretty much bulletproof. I had the 170cc engine built by engines only...spent about 2grand on the motor alone...the engine mods were extensive, but no stroker option to keep the reliability factor high...BBR triple, race tech emulators, BBR stiff spring up front (unless you are large only use one of the stiff springs...way too tight with both in there), Fully adjustable rear shock with ride height adjustment, custom built flat-slide, sun 17" wheels, protaper bars, rev-box....the list goes on. Sure I put a crapload of $$ into the thing, but it is a blast..

I also might have to sell it soon due to the lack of recent use and piles of recent bills...if you are looking to buy one I might be able to seperate with mine....if you are looking to build one I would be more than happy to give any advice I can.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep you in mind if I decide to go this route.

By the way, which shock did you get. I also heard good things about the engines only big bore. Really makes the bike quicker. A guy that I think is from this area has a good site on his bike. I read about this guy on thumpertalk.com, and on his site he said he was at Metcalf. So I assume south bay.

Here is the link to his site if your interested.

I have the Comp. Works rear shock with ride-height adjustment. The Engines Only motor work made a huge difference (along with the Lineweaver made flatslide). I had them basically do everything they could to the motor, lightened the flywheel, Ti valves, hot cam, hi comp piston....it was fairly expensive, but worth it, estimating it went from about 11hp to the 18-20 range...whoohooo!!! hahaha. I probably have $2500 into the engine alone, but even 190cc strokers wont walk away from me. Let me know if you are interested. To be honest, with the amt of money that I have put into the bike, I might not be able to let it go for a price that will seem reasonable for a recreational rider. If I added up all of the reciepts I am probably $8000 into my 150F...thats a bit depressing Either that or my YZ250F have to move to a new home 'cause my new bike got dropped off today and I am past my 4 bike limit I placed on myself 6 months ago.

The 150F's are a blast to ride and easy to own. A fully set up one still will have trouble with a 150R.....but they are much easier to ride week in and week out....and I was able to keep up and even pass a few guys on 150R's last time I was out at Stockton...so you are not left completely powerless. I have been running race gas in mine, but you can use 92oct without any problems, I just like the smell and the couple of extra ponies!

Don't let Duke fool you they are as fast as anyone on the track. A bigger bike may get by them on the straight but they mob everyone in the turns and pass every where, trust me I know. The F is a great and cheaper way to go. I would love to get a CRF150 and join the Mafia.

If you're ever inclined to race at Stockton with SMRRC the R is a better choice. There's no class for the F in which it is competitive. I think that Supermoto USA might have a class for the F, though.

Great day today out at Stockton, not too many riders but lots of 150 Rs and Fs out there battling.

Hey Eric, how tall is your daughter? It looks like that bike fits her like a glove. I'm trying to find a 150f for my GF to get started in the dirt.

Here is a pic of me....on mine.....hungover like a sailor at a practice session at Stockton earlier this year. I have good pic of the profile of the bike but it will not upload for some reason...file may be too big.

Like mentioned earlier....if you are new and want to have a shot at the podium you probably want the R...if you want a fun low maintenance bike that in the right hands can be pretty deadly, a pumped F is not a bad way to go....stock they are slugs.

Thanks for the compliment....not sure I deserve it, but who doesn't like a little ego boost. I seriously was sooooooo hungover when that pic was taken it was silly, I would run 5 or 6 slow laps and then go into the pits and wallow in my misery for 30 minutes....then go out and do a few more laps:p

I do have to say that for someone who wants to get into supermoto the MiniMotard class is great. You can get sideways, clear the doubles, get the adrenaline pumping...without tossing yourself on a firebreathing 450 and jumping into a serious, ultra-competitive race class. The Supermoto pits are a very friendly place to be, and in Mini-Motard it is that much more relaxed and fun.
