I was wondering how do I CA plate dirtbikes like DRZ400E or WR? I've seen many dirtbikes on sales with green stickers. Apart from having the headlights, turn signals and stuffs, what else is needed for the bike to be plated?

I'm new to biking in USA, and worried I would be stuck with a green stickered bike if I could not get it plated. Do I have to call DMV to check with the VIN# before I hand over the green?

I tried searching the web, and I got infos like red sticker is more restricted than green sticker, so I guess red stickers should be more for race scramblers or strokers.

I want to ride a super moto, that's why I'm asking all these stuffs. Thanks!

Buy a bike that is already plated.

Hey dude!

Apart from that......so that's to say if the bike roll off the dealership stickered instead of plated, that means bye bye to CA plate?

:rolleyes

There is a thread in the dirty barfer forum (sticky, even) that pretty much covers this:

Basically, you could easily convert to a plate before 2004, then they changed the rules, and made it really hard. There are still people that do it, but it's pretty tricky. There are even people that make a pretty good living doing it for other people (look up "joeracer"). Chi's right, it's best to buy a bike that already plated, that's why the are at a premium.
