Q: If a Leo cruiser is parked on the side of the road at night with no identifying lights on, not even the parking or interior lights on. Would the officer be considered not in service or are they in stealth mode? If so is it legal to do that?

Search is your friend.

Urban myths are not.

We do not need to advertise where we are. Lights, parking or otherwise, are not required.

I love when people park decommissioned cruisers by the side of the road. I really love when actual LEOs park 2-3 blocks down from those "decoys".

That is how I got my first speeding ticket on a motorcycle. Santa Cruz Cty CHP sitting dark on the side of NB Hwy17 just past Mt. Hermon Road at 9pm on a Sat. night in January. Cagers were freaking out because he was barely on the shoulder w/ no lights, not even parking lights. I didn't freak out or slam on my brakes like the cagers did and I kept on riding so I got popped. :)

Farm roads, Hwy 132 between Hwy 5 and Manteca. CHP parked on on-ramp, clearly visible once you got to other side of overpass. Overlooked long straightway could tag anything for miles. Traffic slowed by 15mph after that.
Came back same way hours later, CHP was still there. This time closely looked, no one was in it.
