What is your Temp. reading on your Gsxr?

Modern middleweight + too-tall stock 17th front sprocket = higher temps than a larger-displacement bike. I rode an '06 GSXR600 in town not too long ago and that sucker was spiking at 220 at stoplights. Then again, we were riding two-up as well.

FWIW my 2006 G1K idles at 164-170. Don't worry about it.

w/ no airflow, temps only go up. that's why you have a fan.

you should worry if it goes above 225-230F

i have a gsxr750 and mine will get up to 225 in stop on go traffic on a regular day and the fan will only brush it down to 210. is that normal? and what is a good warm up temp? i usually take off when it get's a lil over 100. should i wait a little longer or what?

the newer GSXR's run hot. If they run too hot be sure to bleed the system and get all the air out.

As for the oil, they did answer your questions. It's ambiguous and generally up to you. Put whatever oil in your bike you want, dude. Semi or Full is a-okay and the brand doesn't really matter. Just go Semi on the off chance you want to add or change to anything else as you can go either way.

Don't over think it.

Hi,
Today My 2006 gsxr 600 was idling at 180 degrees F. Is this normal?

modern sportbikes run hot, the more power the factories get out of them, the hotter they run. seeing 220F-230F in stop and go is totally normal. as long as the fan comes on and temp drops down at least 10 degrees, everything is fine. the oil question will get you a million answers!!! our suggestion is if you like to change your oil often, use a mineral based or semi-syn oil. if you go to the track, or are lazy about changing your oil, use a full syn from any reputable oil company. remember to use an oil for motorcycles only. if i remember it is a SJ rated oil.

Modern regular or synthetic oils are completely compatible with each other. So it doesn't matter what you choose to use. Use one and you can top off with the other. Change types back and forth, etc. Doesn't matter.

huh, you learn something new everyday. I still try to stay away from the standard stuff just out of habit, but as mentioned above, it probably doesn't matter on street motors as long as you're up to speed on your oil changes.

It dosent matter at all. I use mineral oils on the track bike and streetbikes. If you change it every 2 to 3k miles(less for track), your good to go. Like he said, don't over think it.

The temp thing if normal. My k4 runs cool in this weather. On the freeway, only 170 degrees! The bleeding the cooling system theory is rubbish. It bleeds itself every heat cycle, just check the overflow tank....

Not true. Too much air in the system will make it run very hot, and even though it tries to bleed itself it will get too hot and still might not get as much air out if you rocked it, tapped it, bleed it at the spot and thermostat, etc.

OK, your right. Thats what you wanted to hear right?

Firstly, i never said air in the system wont make it run hot, because a lot of air in the system could make it run hot. I said people over think bleeding the coolant system. Air rises, ever wonder why the radiator cap is at teh top of the system? At the radiator neck, theres an overflow, so when the system gets hot, it purges coolant, or in this case, air, out of the system and when it gets cold, it sucks coolant back into the system.

If you were to do a coolant flush, just disconnect lowest radiator hose, reconnect and refill. Then start the bike with cap off and fill till coolant level stays at neck, and all the air would get cycled out. BARFERS are NOTORIOUS for OVER THINKING!

K.I.S.S.

true, but on the newer GSXR's you really need to bleed the system and a lot of racers seem to be bleeding them often (every round or two), which is quite out of the ordinary for GSXR, in my opinion.

And I could care less if I'm "right" or not, but telling people who obviously don't know what the issue is that bleeding the system is "rubbish" isn't good juju.

i have an '07 gixxer 6. 180 is definitely normal. in traffic i get up to 220, then the fans kick on and take it back down to 200+/-. Cruising on the freeway on a decently weathered day, it'll be anywhere from 170-190... slower traffic hotter day = 190, COLD MORNINGS (like we're having now), it's around 160 on the freeway.

gluck :)
