Today, I got hit with a parking ticket after a day of Substitute Teaching at an Elementary School. After opening up the citation to what I assumed would have been a street cleaning ticket (there were no signs posted), I was shocked to find that I got hit with a ticket for Double Parking! The picture below will show more detail, but basically I was parked next to this covered bike, just to the left of the tree, there was no garage blocking and my rear tire was clearly against the curb.
My only reasoning is that there was enough space for two more cars next to me, and someone got too close to my bike and the meter maid assumed I wedged my bike in between.
The vehicle code was VC22500H and under comments, the officer wrote HAZARD.

I already sent the ticket off to be protested. I know it's only $65, and I'd throw in road tax for street cleaning, but not for this BS.

If you are dealing with SF DPT, you are fighting a losing battle.
But, you are in the right, assuming there was no hazard. Either way, double parking, as I understand it, is two vehicles parked side by side. What you did is called tandem parking and unless there is an ordinance prohibiting two vehicles from occupying the same space, it is legal. It is commonly done throughout the state to conserve parking.
If I were you, I'd write a letter to the Chronicle about parking conservation and erroneous cites being issued by DPT for 2 motorcycles in one space.. ask if people would prefer each motorcycle occupy it's own space when you could easily fit 3 or 4 in a space and make more parking available. After the letter is published, I'd start calling DPT 4x a day to complain about their policy. Then, when they deny that they cite for it.. give them the cite # and ask them to get back to you on it.

I got a ticket from SFDPT about a year and a half go for sidewalk parking.
There was no ticket on the bike, they just sent it in the mail about a month latter.
DPT put a wrong address, so I protested the ticket.
I wrote about a wrong address and that the time the ticket was isued I was at work and could present my time card.
After a three month I got a letter that I don't have enough evidence.
I send a check for $100 and wrote on the letter- " Why don't you give me a ticket for parking on the midle of FUCKING Union Square.I didn't do it but you DON'T FUCKING CARE.Have a nice fucking day"

Wow ain't that some shit. Parking is hard enough to find in the city, and they give you that bs? I'd say to contest it

doesn't it seem perverse that the burden of proof is on the cited?

Where can you park without getting towed in SF? I took a ride to the Ferry Building in SF in the pier and saw a bunch of bikes (motorcycles, mopeds, and bicycles) parked right in front of signs that said NO PARKING. Nobody got towed or anything but I wondered what happens to folks who park in places like that.

sometimes, it's just touch and go with some spaces. Check out the thread I posted last week. got a ticket for parking next to another bike.

Wow. That's awesome. It tells you where you can park, how many spaces, and if it is free or not. Awesome website! Thanks!:teeth
