:Party 1st ANNUAL BARF LEO FORUM WINTER BRUNCH RIDE
Alice's Restaurant in Woodside/La Honda [WEBSITE] (http://www.alicesrestaurant.com/index2.htm)
Sunday, January 20th, 2008, 10am to Noon. Weather permitting. Check here for updates.
Our hope is that we can get a good turnout of LEO Forum mods and the usual suspects [participating cops and the non-LEO participants in this forum].. even the hooligans are welcome!
Rain or wet roads from overnight rain will cancel. :cry Run-off is to be expected in the trees Dec-May, so ride carefully and expect it to be slippery, even if there is no recent rain.
Please keep posted here. We have moved it to January 20th and hope for the best. All forecasts for this weekend look great!
:nerd For those that need it laid out like a Dragnet re-run:
WHO: All BARF LEO Forum Participants.
WHAT: No host brunch gathering.
WHEN: Planned for Sunday, January 20th, 2008, 10 am to Noon.
WHERE: Alice's at the infamous "4-corners" (Hwys 84/35) in Woodside.
WHY: It's about time we put faces to names. That and -Baker- said he would take up a collection to buy the mods and pseudo-mods lunch!
HOW: :ride On 2-wheels.. of course! Use Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=17288+Skyline+Blvd+Woodside,+CA+94062-5707&spn=0.180885,0.267448&hl=en) or your favorite GPS to plan your route and appropriate departure time for a 10 am arrival.
Plan to dress warm. We hope to see you there! :thumbup

So is the plan for everybody to meet at Alice's, or are there going to be several groups forming up in various places and riding up to Alice's together?

If anyone wants to "captain" a group ride from any various locations around the bay (SJ, East Bay, North Bay) feel free to post up your meeting location and departure time. You can brief or negotiate the route before departure and those that wish to join are free to do so. I suggest you break up into groups of 3 to 6 bikes and stagger them by speed, ability, experience and those with passengers. Try to be safe and remember group riding can be hazardous if everyone is not on the same page.
I'll be waiting for you guys at Alice's. :cool So, feel free to consider this a "destination ride" (as my buddy Woz would call it) if you want to. If people want to launch departure rides from Alice's after brunch, that's cool too.
As for flying under a flag of protection.. you're on your own. I won't throw down your name if I get stopped and you don't thow down mine!! :teeth
Also, maybe.
Perhaps you'll find out I'm not really a cop and I don't even own/ride a motorcycle. After all, this is the internet.

Suggestions only
There's a shooting range on Skyline, South of Alices.
http://www.losaltosrodandgunclub.com/
Be interesting (nerve racking) from Alices, the group heads South to the range.
No shooten just ridden. Classic ride route is W. Hwy 84 > W. Pascadero Rd > jump over to S. Cloverdale that becomes Gaza Creek rd. > S. Hwy 1 > Stop near Davenport (check for nudes on the beach)> E. Boony doom > Back to Hwy 9 various ways. It's a late start with time constraints can bypass hwy 9 to hwy 17. Would save hour and half getting out of the mountains.
I will go on one condition. All leo's on this board have to let me buy you lunch. I figure that I have given you guys enough shit on this board that this will be my way of saying thanks.
If your inerested in my offer let me know. I need to figure out how many people I need to rob before I get there. J.K. on the robbing part.
p.s. drinks are included.

I'd certainly be up for the shooting range after. Sadly, my bikes currently aren't in any decent shape and I wouldn't be too inclined to carry my rifle on my back the whole way down there, but I might cage it down there anyway.
Also, maybe.
Perhaps you'll find out I'm not really a cop and I don't even own/ride a motorcycle. After all, this is the internet.

I normally avoid barf rides like the plague, but I may just check this one out. I'm not an LE officer, but a court officer, and would like to meet my fellow justice system riders out there.
BTW, for you Santa Clara County officers out there. Next time you drop off an affidavit, poke your head into the OR station and ask for Robert.

MM4L, what's up with the pansy "weather permitting" crap? Water never hurt nobody :teeth
I'm not made of sugar either! I have found turnouts for wet weather rides are poor (at best). I have show up for 2 pre-announced BARF rides at Alice's and in both cases, I was the only one there. One had awesome weather too. I just figured I'd hedge my bets this time and ensure we have a dry ride for all of those "fair weather bikers" (aka: candyasses) out there.
This is going to be GOOOD!

Anyone wanna ride out from the far east let me know and we can pick a meet spot.
W. Hwy 580 > S. Hwy 880 > W. Hwy 92 or W Hwy 84
Meet spots Livermore(Star Buxs on S. Vasco Rd), San Lorenzo (Star Bux on 15600 Hesperian Blvd)
Pick up allot riders in San Lorenzo
W. Hwy 580 > N. Hwy 680 > W. Hwy 24 > W. Hwy 80 (Bay Bridge) > Hwy 1 or Hwy 92 to Skyline.
Meet spots Livermore, :D Alamo star Bux (Danville Blvd), San Francisco (Farleys 1315 18th St), Daily City
Pick up all the East East bayers in Alamo featuring the one and only Dragon :laughing
Moderate turnout at Farleys in SF and Daily City.
Bonus if there's no ride planned after lunch. The ride there is the ride. It's a fifteen mile North shift off the optimal route from Tracy.

Parking a bunch of bikes and jabbering in the parking lot, is better accomplished across the street at STP (Skyline Trading Post). It's the little store and gas station, and has a 200' parking lot that is level and paved (v. the banked slope w/pine needles in front of Alice's).

I'm totally fine with the 20th, that was why I had set it as a back-up date. Everyone I have heard from told me both days were fine with them.
As it stands, if the 19th and 20th are clear (weather), then we can certainly hold it on the 20th. But, I don't want to move it to the 20th (now) and have it be beautiful and clear on the 19th, with another mega-storm forecast to come in early on the morning of the 20th and we end up scratching the whole event until March.
So, I will update when it gets nearer.

By picking up little bits of info every time go riding. Ah Ha Four corners is big parking lot at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Hwy 35.
Was satisfied Hwy 35(Skyline) and Hwy 84 was called Alices or STP (Skyline Trading Post).
Still collecting info on where abouts of the Pumkin Patch.

Don't worry about keeping them straight- its a fun little rip either/both ways!
How about throwing "Upper" or "Lower" Four Corners? Upper being Alice's/84/35/STP and lower being 9/35.
This is the way I've always clarified.

If ya scoot forward on the seat a bit more, you won't limit your turning radius by not being able to reach far enough to slam the bars all the way to the stops. When I am in the patterns I am darn near sitting on the tank. The second picture looks like you are close to max arm reach.
Did you come and practice with us once?

Hmm, I'll have to try that trick. My body seems to drop into one spot on the seat, though. I typically just lean forward quite a bit to get better reach, although I plan to put some Chubby's on the RK for better reach.

I was tryin to keep my head/eyes up...and that damn keyhole looks so big and ya think to yerself, "Yeah, thats no problem" but then you hit it and for some reason...its that much harder when you get in! And the keyhole is one of the easier patterns! :laughing
My partner was tellin me that he scoots far forward on the tank and I always think about it but it either escapes my memory right before I hit the pattern or everything goes to shit Hehe. And for the most part a full "lock to lock" for me is usually only up to my arms as opposed to the stops. Me and my short arms *sigh* I'm sorta vertically challenged.

Okay, here is the deal, I don't want to interfere with any other rides and it seems the consesnus is that the 20th is the best. As it stands, both days (the 19th and 20th) appear to have excellent weather in the forecast.

Unfortunately, it looks like the weather on Saturday will be quite a bit warmer. I put the new Michelin Commanders on it yesterday. So far, I like em quite a bit. They dip a tad easier into turns. :ride
But you can play on your own bikes...
I'll take notes and ask for pointers.
I'm well aware of motorcop skills. :hail

"In the 50's" is too cold??? Good God man, do you ever ride?:shocker
Alrightythen, check it- they have these new dealios, called "jackets" and "gloves".:ride
Well, it's not so much that the high is expected to be 54 here in the valley, but the fact that it will be in the 40's when we leave the house, and the wind chill puts it a bit lower than that - I did admit I was a wuss!
Actually, it's more that my wife has pretty bad arthritis in her knees and the ride would not be fun for her - and the reason we ride is to have fun after all...

Nice to see everyone- old and new!
Going home, I dropped down Hwy 84 to go see a buddy in Woodside. I know from the bottom of the hill to town has heavy speed enforcement, so I tootled along- but soon had not one, but two San MAteo Sheriff cars behind me...no problem. One closed up pretty fast, so I just scooted over and waived him by- which he did, giving a nice "thanks" waive back afterwards. The second guy stayed behind me.
As I was getting to Robert's Grocery at Canada Rd., an Escalade pulls out right in front of me- from the left side of the road. I saw it coming, so it was no big deal, I just braked and moved over so she could have her three lanes of road she apparently needed to operate in. But, the sheriff saw it too and lights them right up, pulling them over. I stopped by and the Deputy walked back to me, I said "thanks". He said "oh yeah, I saw the whole thing", so we chatted for awhile. Nice!
It was indeed a good time!!! Thats how the rides should be.... The weather, yeah, could have been better. However it was dry and warmer once we got into Boulder Creek. See ya at the next one.

Any idea when that might be? As it turned out even if the weather was better I would have had to cancel because our furnace went out yesterday and we had to wait around for the repair guy to show up this morning - good thing we've got a wood-burning stove in the house for backup!
By the way: does anybody know if there's going to be a Santa Clara Valley Peace Officers' Memorial Ride this year? I went to check the web site and it appears to have disappeared...

It was nice to put some faces to the names. The cold and dampness just made holding that cup of coffee much more satisfying!

That was a great time guys! Sorry I was a buzzkill when we first got there, freezing temps can do that to a man. It was cool to see so many of you guys, we will def. go any time this happens.
Will get Kendra to shw me how to post the pics she took.
I had good time. Like everyone else it was good to put the names with the faces. Weather was a bit too cold and wet for most of use. On that note I think we should do this again sometime in the summer. Maybe have it up at the Junction ( Mines ). This way we can use the outside BBQ's. Just a thought.

Yeah, it was a long drive to Rel's house, and then a cold ride to Alice's, but all in all it was a good time!
Rel and Rel-wife (I'll keep names on the low here), thank you for having me over and letting me sit on your couch and watch the game! The coffee was much needed too.
Chi, you're a cock for leaving without saying bye!
Mortifer, you're an ass for having a heater.
Silversvs, nice meeting you! Good to put a face to a name, and I will be taking you up on those training rides; You can bet.
Noid, thanks for lunch. I appreciate it, really.
Budman, good to meet you!
MNB, NorcalBusa and everyone else, glad you all came up even during the rainy and cold weather!
I'll definitely be looking forward to a summer edition.

I gotta say- Alice's did a fine job with 20-something of us walking in. The food and drinks came right away, and they were attentive on refills and such. Nice job Alice's!
(And the front rooms were packed too)

Yes, kudos to Alice's for the great service and opening up the back room for us. I think maybe a mid-week gathering for a BBQ lunch at the Junction on Mine's Road, this Summer, would be a great follow up. We'll play it by ear.
FWIW, the weather would have been quite a bit warmer on Saturday (the day I preferred), but the majority wanted Sunday and that's what we did. Everyone knew it was going to be cold and damp.. so quitcherbellyachin'.
Thanks to everyone that made it out! It was great meeting so many of the LEO forum minions. I was afraid if we waited until the weather got better, that we would end up with double or triple the number of people and a lower percentage of actual forum participants. That is also why I didn't add this ride to the Social Gatherings or General forums.. I wanted it to be a more private event for those that actually particiate in the LEO forum. I guess I figured right, because even with the cold/damp weather and the limited invites, we filled the place up!
Thank you again to Noid for brunch and thanks to all of the other Mods and Budman for making it out to our First Annual LEO forum Winter Ride.

Thanks to everyone who showed up. Nice putting faces to names. To those who did not make it out, I am sorry but I gave away all my get out of jail free cards at the meet.
It was a nice day for riding. I did a few laps of 35/84/9 etc and then headed to Mt. Hamilton and Mines for the ride home. Put in about 275 miles so it was a fun day.

Maybe next time brother.....
I was both pleased and somewhat surprised to return to the lot after lunch to find my Harley both unmolested and with the same amount of gas in it as there was when I parked it. :)
Thanks for the escort down 35, Rel! :thumbup
I left a minute after you folks did and when I came up on a few bikes, I wondered, "why are they going so danged slow?"
"oh, there's a cop up ahead..."

You're most welcomed..... Between you, me, and Bob, we could have our own little subBarf group.
Now accepting applications.
On another note:
I had to read this a couple times... and I thought... "I didn't see any cop ahead..." then it dawned on me.... it was ME! Still frozen from the ride and working last night.
Standing on 101 for 8 hrs with a Ped fatal makes slow mental response.
