On my way home back over the hill headed southbound on the 17, I got stuck for a good 2 1/2 - 3 hours behind a pretty serious accident. I didn't see what was going on because it was around the bend with some 100 cars stopped dead in front of me.
I did see at least 3 fire trucks, 4 tow-trucks, 3 ambulances, 4 CHP and other LEO vehicles pass through the stopped traffic though. And when traffic finally got moving, I noticed 3 tow trucks with some pretty smashed up looking cars on em, and another one further down the road.
Just wondering if anyone has any information on this. I hope every one is okay and no one was seriously injured. Its a shame people don't slow down on wet foggy twisty windy roads at night, and its a shame that a bad accident had to be the result of it. :( Best wishes to those involved!

Next time you want info on an accident; when you get home take a look at this website: http://cad.chp.ca.gov/

Another fine night on 17....

Everyone, for the most part, is okay.

Just another reason why everyone needs to slow down when the roads are wet!

Thanks Dragon, I didn't know about that website.

Rel, glad to hear that every one is okay.

17 is terrible, too many people commute to and from work, and they race to get to work and home. There are always nasty accidents there.

17 was designed for water run off, not speed. Most people have no idea how to drive in the rain. Nasty combo....

I can't wait until I don't have to commute over the 17 anymore. I hate driving that road every day. I think I am one of the few people out there that actually go 50. I usually get passed by several people, actually I get passed by A LOT of people, but I don't care anymore, I know I am going the speed limit. If they want to go fast and risk an accident, so be it, just get the hell away from me if they do crash!
I can't say I was never guilty of speeding, when I had my R6, I am guilty of driving 10-15 over the limit quite frequently. Although, I guess you could say I've finally developed my Pre-Frontal Cortex, and I actually have the ability to make good judgments, for the most part. :laughing Still learning how to use that part of the brain, it is still new to me after all. (Psychology anyone? :rofl )

btw... on my way home from work tonight, I saw another CHP on the 17, he or she was parked in the big turnout just after the summit going southbound. Good idea, after a big accident in that area last night, its a good way to try to prevent more. Props to you! :thumbup

I also wanted to apologize for my earlier 'freak out' towards LEO's in the past couple months. I was under a lot of stress from an abundant of things gone wrong during the past year, and that whole situation just seemed to be adding insult to injury, rubbing salt in my wounds, the whole kit and caboodle. I didn't handle the situation properly after the fact (mostly venting my anger through posts within the LEO forum). Sorry if I upset anyone. I really am not like that, and I have always respected and looked up to law enforcement. I was being immature, and I now realize my actions and I am confronting them. I hope all can understand and accept my apology for my previous posts.

Haven't heard about it. Although I've only ridden once since everything happened. And that was only for a picture day up at Mt. Hammy where I rode back and forth on one turn, and rode pillion on the way up there and the way home. Not sure if I want to ride, I think I'm still going to sell my gear though. Maybe get into dirt instead. Who knows what will happen... Only time can tell, right?

If it rains, we'll push it back a week or two.... keep your eyes open for a sudden date change.

17 is the worst! Avoid it at all cost when it rains. I rolled down there a couple of years back and saw 3 accidents (1 was a rollover)...

In court today, I heard about an 8 car pile up on 17 today. Bad stuff!!!

I won't make the LEO ride unfortunately, and I dont have a dirt bike, or dirt gear for that that matter, so that's out of the question as well. Thanks for the invites though!
