I'm assuming its some sort of clerical information pertaining to a location of patrol(???), but I'm looking at a citation that reads

beat:44
area:330

Can anyone clarify?

For my Dept.,, SSD, we have broken Sac County into 8 patrol divisions (areas). Within those areas there are beats. Rancho Cordova PD/east is area 5,, there are 6 beats within area 5. Sounds like your cite is CHP,, I'm not sure if they use the same formula as we do???

I think so Brian- when CHP is doing grant enforcement, they reference the grant program ID right on the cite so it is easily picked up in data harvesting.

The area, 330, is the location code for the office that the officer works out of. The beat is the section of the area that the officer issued the citation in. The 44 could either be a line beat (major roadway) or just a large sector of area.

I've always wondered how that was broken down myself!

We just use beats, or "areas" if you wear tan/green.

We have beats and sub-beats. Eleven beats, with five to eight sub-beats each.
