Taser Taser!!
+1 for an easily accessible backup gun.
Almost all fights end up on the ground. Ground fighting skills are a must.

I think it is sickening to think that this guy was doing his job, protecting the public and look at the hateful and juvenile anti-police comments left for that video on YouTube. It truly shows how pathetic our society has become.
Everyone seems to hate/distain the cops until they become a victim of violence, then :cry we can't get there fast enough.

I support LEO 100% now that I am older and wiser. Tough, thankless, dangerous and low paying job. All of you carrying a badge have my respect and admiration for doing it day after day with as much of a smile on your face as you can muster.
Thanks to you all!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a safe 2008 for everyone :-)

Two shots and his gun jammed? Man, I'd buy a new gun after that, and clean it daily.
Wish the clip would've gone longer to where the backup kicked the boxer's ass.

My first week of patrol and many people either avoid making eye contact with me or give me the stink eye. We did have a dad and his son come up to the patrol car and tell me "we appreciate what you're doing for our community"

Can't imagine the feeling of looking down the barrel of your own gun. I feel for that Officer. No matter how good a fighter you are, there's always someone bigger, faster and stronger out there.
Glad to see the Officer made it out alive and I'd like to think the suspect died of internal bleeding at a different time. Sorry, I don't want my tax dollars paying for someone like that to breath....

reminds me of the video of the k9 and officer struggling with some guy who get a hold of the officers gun but jams it by hitting the dog so it didn't shoot when he fired at the officer. The officer pulled out his backup and down went the suspect.:banana

Yes police work is dangerous. There is no such thing as a "routine" traffic stop. There are people out there who have no problem taking on cops. Officers better be ready at all times. And the public often wonders why we appear "paranoid." Its not being paranoid, its being aware of our surroundings.
I don't remember the outcome of this series of photos, but they are a reminder of just what we can face at any moment.

I cant find the video i was talking about but here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0drvsJM71I) is a edited version with an interview- they dont show when the suspect jammed the gun during the struggle.

No but according an the original video he was drug dog and wasn't trained to "fight", considering i think he did a good job when he saw his handler was in deep shit.

shame that 2nd bullet didnt hit him straight in the dome....
+1 i dont see how one can walk around as a cop and not have AT LEAST 1 backup gun. i know full well if i was in uniform, i'd have 2 backup firearms plus mace and a tazer..which brings me to a question....
why arn't tazers standard issue required equiptment????? and please dont let the answer be 'money'.... :cry
and yeah, the comments on YouTube are pretty sad/sorry to say the least. i'd love to see any of those computer geeks get in a uniform and go against a heavyweight boxer thats +100lbs and +1 foot on them.

AFAIK, it's not standard.
I don't understand the reasoning. We brought this up earlier this year in a policy review session.
We used an incident where a subject attempted to disarm an officer who was pointing the gun at the bad guy. He tried to grab it from her hands. She began pulling the trigger (this is after a protracted fistfight where he jumped on top of her after punching her in the face).
We pointed out - if he had disarmed her, there was probably a 95% chance he would shoot the officer with it (I figured 5% was an acceptable allowance - this is not based on any statistics, just gut feeling).
We were told it was probably only a 50/50 chance, and thus not worth worrying about(aka - no backup weapons). :wtf
9 months after the meeting, we haven't gotten a yes/no answer - but I'm sure it will be no.
How do you argue with that? I'm not diplomatic enough to. That's into shouting territory in my book. It's just another case of "we've never done it that way".

Sorry but I'm going to have to say it....Money.
The tasers are not cheap and a lot of cities are afraid of lawsuits because of money grubbing lawyers. Sad when it’s actually cheaper to kill someone with a knife coming at you than try to use a tool and save their life only to be sued by some lawyer with dollar signs in his eyes. Don't taze me bro'.

Comes down to the public impression of the cop having a "Drop gun" to cover their butt; some departments chose to not allow them. Really a stupid idea because most departments just have a policy on them. You can only carry one approved by the department and the serial number is on record with the department. And we also have to qualify with it just like our duty gun.

This last year, my sons partner was shot and killed at a 'party house' where they had the kids separated in different rooms doing interviews after a disturbance call. It was a 'secure scene' with 10 officers present. One of the kids pulled a hand gun out from under a bed and shot his partner in the head. He then came out of the room and fired shots at the other officers on scene. The kid didn't survive his stupidity. All this at a 'juvenile' party and there was no reason for this asswipe to start blazing away on the cops :(

Any indication why the kid did it? Was he on PCP or something? Suicidal? Just really stressed and adenalined?

Evidently not an OG wannabe.
Gangsta or not, you have to be either stupid or really not sober to think that shooting a cop when there are another 9 around is not going to get you killed within a minute.

General area is correct. If you get a better view of the patches you'll see that's not the correct county however. Little farther north.

You have to realize youtube is mainly 15 year olds with a "fuck the police" attitude. Most of us realize you have a job to do, and a dangerous one at that, and respect that fact.
Dont take it personally, because no one likes running in to you pigs on a bad day :twofinger
