View Full Version : Does This Head Gasket Look Too Large?

Hi All -

Finally getting back to the XL600 engine rebuild here. The guys who did the cylinder rebuild sent me a larger gasket for my head because it was bored over a couple sizes (100.25mm). Due to the holidays, I haven't been able to get ahold of them to ask, so I'm posing a question for you all.

In the pic below you can see the gasket layed atop the cylinder. If you squint, you can see that it's roughly 2mm larger in diameter than the cylinder. You think that will work okay? Is it better to go too large or too small with these things? I also have the OEM gasket; it's a 3ply metal job, tho it looks like it might be just a hair too small.

Thanks for the help!

Hey, I'm not an expert, but that looks like it should be fine. It should still seal up, even with the gap. Good luck! :thumbup

I believe it will also compress some when you put your head back on the block and torque it down

It's good, all the 2 smoke top ends I've done look like that. When it is too small you have to worry
