I've heard that there may be alternatives to the stock SV radiator. Is this true? A recent lowside has left me in need of a replacement.

Why not just replace it with an OEM unit? I know its not the sexiest radiator, like the curved Monster rad., but it functions as it should.

Dang. The OEM radiators are expensive.
Bummer about your new SV.
Have you tried Fremont Cycle Salvage (http://www.fremontcycle.com/index.cfm)? Used and undented will be a lot cheaper than new.

The only alternative I know of is......overheating.

yeah the oem units are way too expensive. ive heard that a gixxer rad may work with some minor modifications, but have seen no evidence.

There are not any really good alternatives. You might get an older Katana rad to work. Gixxer rads need extensive work, you can retrofit and gen two rad to a gen one bike (SV).
You can send in the radiator to Mylers for repair, a cheap alternative known to SV owners.
You can install an earlier R6 radiator, extremely tight fit, ditto Ducati rad.
But the best bet is find an SV rad used on ebay or fix the crashed one.
