Hello All,

I have a 02 F4i at around 12k miles.

What do I need and where can I get it fastest and cheapest?

I am in San Francisco.

Thanks

If you have basic tools and the willingness, you can do it yourself and save a bunch of money.

Obligatory "pick up a shop manual" comment. SF Cyclegear probably has a suitable one. :thumbup

nope...has gasket on it... put a light ring of new oil on the gasket before replacing it... if this is your first time doing an oil change, get a service book and/or have an experieced friend come over and help so you can learn

You might want to buy a new washer for the drain bolt. I just reverse mine so I get 2x use out of them. Oil filter comes w/ a gasket. You'll also need a wrench for the drain bolt and nice to have a filter wrench as well. It only takes 10 minutes for me on the R6 and 5 minutes on the SV.

its got a aluminum sealing washer. i re-use mine 3~5 times and then replace it. while your @ the shop pick up a oil filter wrench, the big, thin, metal socket style. the one that fits your honda fitys a lot of other bikes as well.

if i recall correctly its like 3.8... i always check it as im filling to get it right, use the viewing window. Fill it between the low and high, start the engine, and let it get to temp. than when you shut down the bike check the window again (level, not on the sidestand) and see if you need to add

Unlike some sportbikes, you can do it with the fairing on easily. The drainplug is the left rear bolt on the underside, the filter is between the header pipes and can be accessed by turning the bars toward the side your working on, i like the right. The hardest part was finding a filter wrench that fit well, I use one of those cam-action, self-gripping springloaded dealies. It holds 3.3l/3.5 US qt with filter change.

You need the tools that came with your bike, an oil pan to catch the oil, 3.5 quarts of 10w40 SF or better rated oil, and an oil filter.

Don't put the filter on with a wrench...not necessary. Hand tight is good enough.

make sure the bike is up straight when you check the oil level (not on the side). KN filters have the helpful little bolt thing to get them off (kn303). Put oil on the new o ring so its easier to get off next time.
