Not a bad price for a quality set of safety wire tools. Most aircraft mechanics consider the Milbar's to be the best

(note: if you browse the sale catalog...do NOT get the spark plug heli coil tool set.....aircraft spark plugs are bigger than automotive/ cycle !)

The stripped screw removal kit looks interesting though...

Milbars are ok, for the price, I still prefer Snapon, I've used the free replacement deal 3 times, IA for 25 years.

oh heck, you got me beat by 5 years....you must be a crusty sob !

:twofinger

You don't get the fancy little twirly thingy from Snap-On though ! (I never used one, but some folks like 'em)

Whats wrong with the ones I spend $20 on a Cycle gear? Maybe I don't use them enough to break them...though I probably should....

Sure they are inexpesive and ok for limited use. But for us in the aviation industry where most fasteners are saftey wired, the cheap ones wear out quickly. The alternative would be the SAFE-T-CABLE , but the tool is approx $385.00 and the cables cost appox $1.78 per piece for a 18" cable and one swage. Far too expensive for the home tool box.

A 'proper tool', as they say in the UK. :)

eh, nothing wrong with 'em, I've got a cheap pair in one of my tool boxes too....Heck, wrap the jaws on your vise grips, with tape, and they're a passable safety wire tool (c'mon, you know you've done that before)

It's just that a good tool feels.....so.....umm.....GOOD !

I bought an expensive brand back in 1997. They broke. Then I went to Harbor Freight and purchased two for $20. . . errr. . . that is two sets of pliers for only $20 ($10/each). Nice! I now have two, which means I'm less likely to misplace both at the same time (my garage is a mess).

I'd like to be a tool snob, but these two little bastards work great.

OK so I'm drooling over the SK tools and the snapon brands, but for the occasional tooler like myself the HarborFrieight safteywire pliers I have in my toolbox work just fine enough to let me pay my rent :-)!

I hate harbor tool cuz the stuff is soo cheap, but once in awhile it is good garbage.. I have only bought from there one time. I bought a cheap pair like 10 yrs ago from a basic motorcycle shop and we use em everyday at my shop and we do alot of work with them.

I have only had the twist cap come loose 2 times and I tightened it and she is godo to go for a million more twists... $179 for that really nice kit is super crazy in my mind. JMO

I bought one from HF, and the innards flew out on the 2nd wire I twisted. They asked me if I wanted a replacement, but I said no, give me my $10 back.

I guess I got lucky, with the HF saftey wire stuff, probably because I bought 2 of them and still have one in the original packaging :) Going strong for 2 years now on that first pair of SW pliers.

So, it must be some sort of tool sacrifice ritual.
